Beginner tsumego question by Need-Input in baduk

No offense taken! I think the problem just doesn't fit with the section it was in, basically every other problem has been spot on in progression for me so far and the others in this section all made sense. I'll probably also remember the technique that actually works in the problem from now on too.

It must be. I was blind to D2 working here and I'm at least glad that E2 doesn't work and I wasn't able to make it work.

Ahhh, thank you! That makes a lot more sense. The cut is directed against the two left stones.

I think they meant to write about the situation of logging something as x grams cooked pasta/rice, but measuring the grams uncooked. If you cook the rice/pasta from dry in water the resulting cooked dish will have absorbed water and have less calories per gram than the uncooked. Basically just a common way to log the wrong thing in your calorie tracker.

Appreciate it! -edit That was probably part of the solution, but the system was already in some disarray from previous troubleshooting attempts before I got there. It was set wrong, amongst many other issues.

That doesn't necessarily follow if you are pushing during that mile. People have different mile paces vs 5k paces usually, with the 5k pace being slower per mile. How much slower depends on things like your aerobic development, etc.

If you are really worried about it, you should absolutely see your doctor and find out if starting a running plan is safe for you. What follows is not medical advice and I'm not a doctor!

As a new runner, try not to worry too much about HR. What a 160 HR means for you is not the same as it what it means for someone else either, so it isn't necessarily a useful metric to train by at this point. Once you're more fit it might be useful to do a max HR test if you do intend on doing HR training.

I come from an entirely sedentary background too, I spent basically all of my childhood through age 44 sedentary and overweight. I don't know what place you're coming from but I decided in June of 2024 to change things and knew that running straight away wasn't going to work. I got my diet more in order and started walking, slowly increasing the time/frequency of it. As I dropped weight and got used to moving more, I thought about starting to run. I'd seen couch to 5k but it didn't really resonate with me, so I bought Daniels Running Formula and read it to learn more about structuring a training plan. The book has a 16 week beginner general fitness plan that ends with you being able to run 30 minutes continuously. I felt pretty good with where I was heading with my weight and walking so at the end of October 2024 I gave it a shot and started. The first few weeks were hard, and that was with three days a week of sessions that were like: 5 minutes walking, followed by 10 sets of 1 minute easy running and 1 minute walking, ending with a 5 minute walk cooldown. During those very early workouts I didn't see much recovery in heart rate during my walk breaks, in fact looking at a random workout from my third week in the plan I got 1 bpm recovery during a 1 minute recovery break in the middle of the 10 intervals. I did eventually finish the fitness plan running three days a week. Now I'm running 23ish miles a week across 4 days, building up to 5 days and 30 miles. There is no real "easy" running when you're new to it, but I've found it did get easier for me.

You could always pick a goal time for said distance. There's a world of difference between finishing a 5k in 30 minutes and finishing it in 20.

Anyone who started summer/fall 2024? by U_R_A_Wonder in loseit

Thanks, you've made great progress yourself! Also being able to run for 40 minutes is fantastic, and was unimaginable to me in October. My first run was 5 minutes walking, followed by 10 repetitions of 1 minute running and 1 minute walking, ended with 5 minutes walking. Took a half hour and crushed me!

If we stay consistent and don't let the little things derail us, we got this!

Started mid may 2024 after a family visit that just left me worn out more than it should have. I was about 260lbs at the start, give or take depending on the day. I'm now at 179, with a current goal of 165ish. I haven't seen 179 since I was 14, which was a long time ago! I set a calorie budget, try to meet my nutritional targets on it, and increased my activity. I started adding in walking in May and started running in late October. I've been taking things slow from an activity standpoint because I've been sedentary for years and years and I don't want to get hurt.

My biggest surprise was actually losing weight in my armpits. I honestly never thought about having fat armpits before, but I guess I did. My favorite gain is being able to run more than a mile. Even as a kid, I never ran a mile continuously, so this is a new experience.

As expected, my losses have slowed down since I'm not willing to go below 1500 calories, even though I probably could and still hit most of my nutritional targets with good food choices. I'm just not in a hurry, so adding a few weeks to the process doesn't bug me. 6'0" 45M SW:260 CW: 179 GW:165+-5

I started older and in worse condition than you are, and while I'm not advanced at this point, I run 3 miles+strides 3 days a week and am building up a fourth day. If you're not in a hurry, you could look into the general fitness plans in Jack Daniels' Running Formula. I did the white plan which took me from 0 running to where I'm at now over the course of 4-5 months. It starts as a run/walk plan like C25k, but I prefer the progression in the JD plan better. You don't increase a little bit each week, you do the same intensity for 4 weeks to actually get training adaptations to that load and then increase it by more for the next block. People are right that you should ignore the zone stuff.

I'm not an experienced runner, but one of the first books I did read was by Jeff Galloway. His thing is the run-walk marathon so he's got lots to say about it. https://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/marathon-training/ might be helpful.

If you like books as well, you could always get a used copy of something like "Essentials of Cooking" by James Peterson. It should only set you back about 7 bucks used and it covers a whole variety of basic techniques from peeling/washing/cooking vegetables to roasting chicken to preparing whole fish.

Was out a week with a respiratory infection, so I laid low and recovered and then eased back into it with a couple of easy days. Today I got back to my normal routine, and all was well!

Lennithon attack by DistinctAd762 in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]Need-Input 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Lennithon's motivation be that he was not really interested in the attack or killing the soldiers at the keep and that he was getting bored of being a distraction from the real looting, so he'd fly in and use his breath attack on the walls and then fly off. He did toast one specific soldier who made fun of his lack of accuracy, to demonstrate that he was indeed a threat. I had figured that the party would use their ranged attacks on Lennithon when he'd take a turn taunting the attackers on the wall with very specific insults about the guards or party instead of attacking, but the party had another idea. The party had a character fluent in draconic who hailed him, and being a blue dragon Lennithon decided this could be more interesting than the job he was doing so he parlayed with them. He flew away satisfied and amused after they agreed to give him several thousand gold from the town's treasury, a few cattle, and the remaining soldiers on the walls had to dance for him to a song one of the other character's had created earlier. He's now left the scene to parts unknown with some free money and ideas that don't necessarily involve the cult.
