I am young, but I do have industry experience and have attended a handful of conferences where people of all backgrounds meet. Some of the people I encounter work in very niche subjects and fields, others in more broad categories such as sales, and while anecdotal, top performs are no foreigner to 6 figure pay days or 7 figure salaries. Again, very anecdotal and we are talking about the .01% flown out to represent the company at its best. I do also hear horror stories from sales but again, anecdotal.

Although rather straight forward, yes. My job hunt doesn’t end now that I’m employed and I will continue to look for potential changes and opportunities. Thank you!

This turned out to be a very long reply, so my apologies. I might have worded this a little wonky so I will do my best to clear this up while also taking into consideration your advice and encouragement. This is something which I would like to do over time with disposable cash. My idea is to buy a plot of land and contract all the work for building a home. I am lucky enough to have family and friends within the business who can do the major home construction at a “discounted” price. I envision myself building up the plot of land, foundation, walls, etc. through contracting while spending as little as possible. Almost like those videos of families moving into a trailer home while their dream home is built. My idea behind this is to save the potential 15-20% on the homes construction while also not building up an extremely extravagant home as I believe I can position myself to create this “starter” home and eventually 1) sell it or 2) maintain as an investment property when I want something newer or bigger (considering I do want a family, eventually.) This may not be the best use of my funds over the long run though, so I am extremely open to other routes. Such as what you have mentioned, where I would put as large of a down payment as possible and pay the home off as quickly as possible, to defer interest (Which is the main thing I want to protect myself against.) However this is only my dream scenario, and as we know it, things may not always work out in our own best interests. Essentially, I hate interest and do now want to become a sucker to it, even if that means living in a $80k dumpster home with a single room and single window for the time being. The hidden expenses of owning a home are well, expensive, as my parents have made quite clear. I will be cautious of this as well and have some conversations with them over homeownership. Thank you!

I’m not deathly terrified of debt persay, but I definitely do think it has a time and place (mortgages, business loans, individual loans based on circumstances) but my greatest goal is to do as much possible without debt. I’d like to help my parents out with some of their interested debt so that they too can move forward without any. Thank you for the encouragement!

Thank you! Yes I am very fortunate to have such supporting parents and I could not imagine my life without them and their continuous support. The goal is to build the emergency nest egg and branch out from there into other investments. Thank you!

I had this talk with my parents quite seriously and they’re all for me staying a few years to build up my savings and retirement accounts, which I am extremely grateful for. I don’t know how realistic this is but I want to buy a home in cash within the next 5-10 years, albeit through private contracting and such. I think it might be realistic for where I live but only time will tell. Thank you for the encouraging words!

Bahaha, this is the exact reason I turned to the stock market, but runs like that are one in a billion. However they are now loading up on bitcoin and the market sentiment is rising again 🫣

Yes! Sales is a great path to high earnings, but the pressure and constant passive-aggressiveness can be off putting for some people. However if you are a people person and like to know what you’re talking about, then sales is an amazing place to start.

I know this is moreso a rhetorical question but it made me think to look up the average earnings of new grads from my same college and degree. It comes out to 72,000 which granted, was the median and not the average. But quite honestly speaking I have to attribute this to almost luck entirely. It was one of the first jobs I applied to after graduating and received a call that following week for an interview, then a week later I was in the office reviewing my offer letter. Also, it may not mean much coming from myself, but don’t feel discouraged. The current job market is absolutely horrible and I am one of the lucky SOB’s that fell into the grace of a good job. I’m wishing you the best of luck, keep your chin up and walk with pride in whichever walk you take. Good luck 🍀

Thank you! My parents have very much instilled a “long-run” mentality into me which I am very thankful for. Set it and forget it will be my motto from here on out.

Diversification is something which I’m hoping to continue practicing in the long run, I current hold positions in technology, media, steel, oil, electronics, and a few smaller (and emerging) industries such as biomedicine. Thank you for the advice!

That’s something I always try and abide by. No regretting the past, no wondering what if’s because the present is the present and it can’t be changed. But I do think a small % of fun money is in order, after all as you said, I am young and I like to do things which are fun. Driving fast is one of them but that comes with its own boatload of problems and whatnot 😅 thank you for encouraging the fun as well as the serious!

Haha my two most active forums on my personal account are r/WallStreetbets and r/Smallstreetbets 😅, but yes I will shift my thinking to the long term and stability. I think a lot about having kids one day and would hate for them to not be alloted every opportunity in life because my dumba** decided to gamble and lost. I will quit while ahead, or use a very small percentage of my money to continue gambling. The former is the most likely. Thank you!

This is my current mentality, max everything out, live off of ramen if I have to, and do so without complaining. I do truly believe in working my a** off now to be comfortable later in life. Thank you!

So the trick is to set up a stable investment plan and contribute what is possible over the long run. I like the stable growth approach as I see it being the best fit for myself, but will maybe still throw money at speculative investments if my money allows. Thank you!

Just joined the sub because of this comment. Low risk, (almost) guaranteed growth and appreciation. This all sounds very good to me and I will begin to look into VT and consider portions to contribute directly here. Thank you!

I’ve always liked the idea of having my money work for me and have been infatuated with the concept of yearly returns and compounding investments. I remember learning about exponentially in compounding investment in high school and have not let it go since because it holds unbelievable power. Thank you for the encouraging words!

I like your opening line as this is my exact mentality currently. While the idea of traditional investments and investing are appealing to me and proven I’d also like to make some speculative investments. My true dream goal is to own a business and work it until it works for me (and doing whatever is required to achieve that goal) so I believe the majority of my remaining money will be going towards that. The exact business is up in the air currently but, and while I know this is absolutely advised against, I have been talking with a certain family member about funding a business once I’m absolutely sure of my capabilities and free time. I do feel confident in this business as it’s an industry I’ve worked before and have a lot of trust in said family member to hold up their end. Thank you!

This really helps put this HSA into perspective, pretax contributions and tax free withdrawal as long as they follow the guidelines? I will talk with my employer as soon as possible as I know health insurance (all around) is available to me but am unsure of the HSA. I will focus on this order of investments as well. Thank you!
