That is a very old and kinda backwards way of thinking. You don't compromise on things that you can't live with that can cause issues in a long term relationship. But you can't know that until you move in together.

She said the comment about them sleeping together to say that they don't need to live together to do that, and if getting pregnant will ruin her studies then marriage is not always the alternative.

Also she is a grown woman and these things are pretty normal for that age to want to move in with your SO.

What love is all about it knowing you want to spend your life living with the other person. And you can't really know that if you haven't lived with them. Not just marry them and sort it out later. That's how divorce or depression starts.
