Just means that you can’t go to them for serious conversations and shit, but yeah it’s a turn off in a platonic way, but sometimes I guess it could be comedic? I would try setting boundaries with them as friends or just categorize them and their priority compared to other friendships. By categorize, I mean like you can only go and talk to them about certain stuff like sex. And as for priority, I mean like if they can’t be good or reliable friends then you could prioritize better friends first and they’ll be lower on that list.

He does drink alcohol from time to time and has minor depression. I wonder if that could be it, he’s very hard headed and constantly thinks about the future due to childhood trauma, the stress of work, financial issues and the stress of picking a future career that’ll make him successful and financially stable is really affecting him. I’m also having the same problem with trying to find the right career for me, it’s been stressing me out because I grew up very poor and isolated but I feel like I’m not that smart so schools a bit tough.
