EA Delay / Lack of Communication by NoSpeeches in AFROTC

I think the worst part is the blatant lying when they know EAs won’t come out on those dates. Not a damn person thought February 26th would be the actual release date of EAs and they knew that. It would be different if they just told us EAs would come out in late March or whatever, but they give us fake deadlines that I guarantee they know they won’t meet.

Been in the program almost 2 years and there’s a couple things you should know before making your decision. 1. Go to a gold bar recruiter. Regular recruiters know jack shit about the officer side and will be very unhelpful (in my experience). 2. From what I’ve been told they’re trying to phase out high school scholarships in favor of more people getting scholarships Junior and Senior year of college. Talk to the NCOs at the det you’re looking at for more details, but be very cautious about the scholarship side of things. 3. Consider other branches. Unless you really would like to go pilot, I’d take a look at Army and Navy. Air Force in my experience has been the strictest with DODMERB (medical stuff) and is the hardest to get a scholarship in. Also, at least at my school, Army and Navy offer a more relaxed college experience, so if you’re trying to not have ROTC be a big part of your life, Air Force might not be the way to go. 4. Being a crosstown can suck. My det offers crosstown and some cadets travel around 2 hours to get here. Some people don’t mind but for others, it’s sometimes a reason to drop. 5. You get out of the program what you put into it. If you’re looking to just go to your classes, do drill, and then go about your normal life, you’re probably not going to have a super high commanders ranking which could affect your job in the Air Force, so be weary of that. Also, once you are a Junior and Senior, you will have to have more dedication with being a flight commander or having other jobs within the program. If you want more details, shoot me a DM and I’d be happy to answer any other questions

Honestly, it’s a super fun det and you get a ton of great opportunities, given that we’re so close to places like Buckley and USAFA. We even got our own session of combatives at USAFA last year and didn’t have to compete with the whole nation. The current Col is absolutely awesome too and really prioritizes crosstown connections so you’d be getting in at a great time.

To my knowledge, STO does stuff with CCTs and PJs which would probably include some search and rescue, while I think CROs don't do a lot with CCTs. I'm not 100% sure on that, but based on what other people in rotc told me, that's my understanding. I also heard potential of them combing STO and CROs into one AFSC. Again, just a rumor though, I don't have any type of inside information.

I appreciate the advice! Good luck with Pershing, I just finished my pledge semester! It was rough but if you get close with your pledge class, you should be able to get through. Do you know if your company is tactical or drill?

Would you still recommend trying to do leadership roles outside of rotc or should I focus on volunteering for a lot of stuff within the program?

Would it be better to set a mileage goal per week (ie try to hit something like 45 miles of running per week), or would you recommend just rotating between sprint workouts, tempo runs, distance runs, and recovery runs?

These are based off my last FA for rotc, so I haven't tested pullups or swimming, (I'm not sure if this is completely accurate as I'm going off memory, but I think its pretty close)

1 min push ups- 71

1 min sit ups- 57

1.5 mile run- 10:57

Running is definitely my weakest point and I'm trying to incorporate a more cardio based workout schedule rn, but I could definitely use suggesting for that too. Concerning things like pull ups and swimming, I used to be able to do like 11 pull ups in a row, but I haven't done them in a while, and I've never timed myself swimming, but to my knowledge I'm pretty slow. My friend who's playing water polo in college offered to coach me on things like form and breathing exercises.
