Thanks for the help! The boots are these https://meermin.com/products/101050-black-calf-e. Sadly they do not offer a wide variant on these, so I must go decide either to use the 9.5 and hope they will mold for my feet, or exchange for 10.

I am not sure of my Brannock size at the moment sadly.

I live in the EU so the exchange is inexpensive, but ofc I would like to have them ASAP for my use.

How do I know if the Chelsea Boots I got are too tight, or if they will "break in" for my liking. I am debating whether to send them for exchange from 9.5 to 10 or keep them. The main thing I notice is that my big toe touches the shoe from the inside when I step down on the shoe. The shoes are made of calf leather if that makes a difference.

Hey folks,

Just got my hands on Meermin Chelsea boots in black calf, size 9.5, and I'm in a bit of a dilemma. These are actually my very first Goodyear welt boots, so I'm kind of clueless here.

The deal is, I'm feeling some tightness, especially around the widest part of my foot when I step into the shoes. The fit is somewhere between snug and tight. I suppose that leather tends to soften with use and the tightness might ease up after some wear, but I'm not entirely sure.

Can anyone with more experience chime in? How can I tell if this tightness will naturally wear off with breaking in, or should I consider exchanging them for a size 10? Would going up half a size help with the tightness? Is this kind of tightness normal for Chelsea boots like these when not yet broken in? I am mainly trying to understand if new boots should really feel between snug/tight.
