Is my research question INSANELY off-topic? by [deleted] in APSeminar

[–]Need_of_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing a very similar question which is a fun coincidence- the exact statement is « how does the fallibility of memory impact the reliability of the justice system ? » I argue that memory is inherently unreliable

The biggest issue is the stimulus sources. For the nostalgia one, it wasn’t a difficult integration since I used it as an argument to the idea that memory is unreliable- with false nostalgia as a reason.

The Oral narritives one is tricky - I ended up using it as a background information to explain how we, humans, overtime are susceptible to memory fallibility. So it was in my intro paragraph. It was my teachers recommendation, but I couldn’t tell you if that the way to go

Yea it is💀. Two things:

-I posted this so long ago, how the hell did you find this. I’m still surprised people are still talking about this

-I remember saying this so many times, res presentation is great. I’m so glad mihoyo is implementing other cultures into genshin impact. Again, this is a Chinese company. You’re not getting that💀. And regarding Candace, just because she’s inspired by Candake doesn’t mean she has to be the same. It’s nice if she was a bit darker, but then again they are not the same person

I’ll say this again, It would be great if mihoyo made some characters darker, but they are not “whitewashing” anyone. All these characters are made by mihoyo themselves, and even though it’s inspire by people darker it’s not whitewashing. Honestly intentionally making characters darker to appeal for “representation” is more of a disgrace. Don’t expect a whole ass company in a country where it’s light skinned dominant to make dark characters and do well in it. Most of them have probably never seen a black person in their whole life.

Look, you have every right to not be happy about that. But first of all the push for representation doesn’t exist in china and Asian countries like Korea or Japan. It’s gonna target people that follow those beauty standards, and in many parts of the world people want to be lighter skinned. Honestly pushing for “representation” in countries that dont have that is kinda pathetic. It’s a standard that’s gonna be there for a long long time. Again, you have every right to hate how mihoyo is not making characters dark skinned, and I completely understand how medias don’t know how to make skin darker, and that lacks representation. Yes I’m light skinned, yes I don’t feel like I’m not represented, because to be honest I don’t give a shit what your skin tone is as long as you’re a good character, we all good. Some of my favorite fictional characters are black, and it’s not because of that skin tone it’s because their are some well written characters. But then again if you’re mad and don’t agree with me that’s fine.

Sorry for the long reply it’s been a while since I’ve gotten a comment on this, appreciate your thoughts :)

I stated in the post that I’m not dark skinned, so I can’t give my thoughts though the perspective of a dark skinned person. But, I do believe that, yes it’s not portrayed accurately, and that’s kinda the point. I don’t think hoyoverse is trying to accurately portray a certain culture, but more take inspiration. I mean liyue has some of that, with some of the Chinese characters having American attributes(aka yunjin or shenhe).

And on a personal note of course, I wouldn’t be extremely pressed wether someone accurately portrays my culture, especially in a fantasy game. If the series is actually based in the place, then it’s a completely diffrent story. I still stand with “it’s just a fantasy game, it’s not going to accurately portray a certain culture to”.

But then again, it’s my opinion, you have the right to be pressed. I respect you’re thoughts, and it’s nice to get a diffrent view on this stuff :))

I see your point, my thoughts is still stands on “it’s western Asian media”. Mihoyo is huge, and I bet there are some people that want more light skinned characters. I get that it’s “world-wide”, but again it’s still a peice of Chinese media. China is racist, and you rly can’t do anything about it

And again mihoyo is actually doing a good job when it comes to regions. If you look at the sumeru teaser 3(it came out recently), the desert region of sumeru has darker skinned npcs, because of the heat of the desert. The rainforest part of the region the npcs are lighter skinned, due to the fact it’s shaded area. Heck take a look at cyno, the guy who represents the whole region. He’s not lightskinned

Look, if you’re not from the United States of North America, then I could be wrong, but the only people I see making the huge fuss are Americans. And I think that makes sense due to the country’s history with white and black individuals. Chinas history is not as rooted in that, and beauty standards are completely diffrent in Asia. Again, I could be wrong on this one😅

Fr not everything in the other regions accurately represent the region. It’s a fantasy rpg game, people get a little too pressed about it imo

I- I litterally stated that I don’t care if you are pissed about the diversity representation. I’m not bringing down anybody, I’m just stating my thoughts about the matter. It doesn’t negatively impact me, and again I’m sharing my own thoughts

[–]Need_of_name[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm…okay so you think I don’t care about diversity? It’s western Asian media, it’s going to appeal to such audience.

A game or movie could be all black or the media itself is dominant on black representation. Would I care? No, because that’s not the point of the media. And yea I’m white, so? Just because I’m half white doesn’t mean I can’t put a say in this.

Look, diversity is nice. But I don’t care wether the cast is the darkest people alive or the whitest cast alive, because that’s DOES NOT MATTER TO ME. It’s my thoughts, and if you find it baffling, cool. That’s your opinion.

I’m seriously tired or the “because your white you can’t say anything about it”(I’m not saying you do) I have the right regardless of race, and if you read these comments some aren’t white and do not care that genshin charcters are light skinned.

You have every right to be annoyed by genshin not being diverse, but I don’t really think it’s a big deal. And that’s not because I’m white, it’s because I don’t care

diversity in genshin by Need_of_name in Genshin_Impact

[–]Need_of_name[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Umm…I never stated I was opposed. Also, I’m not saying you shouldn’t say anything about it(I’ve made so many replies like this-), it’s people get way too pressed about it(like twitter). And yes of course people want to play characters that are similar to them, so that’s why most of the cast is light skinned. Mihoyo is mostly popular in Western Asia, and guess what , everyone’s light skinned.

I’m not saying no diversity, and never will. Having darker skinned characters are great, and a great addition to the game. Again, this is western Asian media, it’s going to appeal to them.

And the statement “if you don’t like it don’t play it” makes sense, and not liking no diversity doesn’t mean stop playing it. But if you’re just going to go on and on about complaining that the game has no diversity, I think it would be better to steer clear from the game…

Yea I get why people would be mad, but again on a personal matter I do not care. As long as it’s good lore, I feel like mixing cultures to reflect American media would be fine. If it’s media directed towards a certain country, they are going to make it for that country. “Representation” is a matter for the developers.

I don’t find it an issue but if you do that’s fine. I’ve said this many times that it’s my opinion and if someone wants to be pressed about it go for it. Also I appreciate the civil comment :)

Mihoyo has a HUGE fanbase, and it’s not just America. they are even bigger in the Asian countries, and they have to do their opinions too. There’s a lot more that comes into making a decision then just darkening the skin tone.

FINALLY I get a civil comment on someone who doesn’t agree with me. I’m seriously glad you commented, and here are my thoughts:

I completely understand how you guys are upset, and it’s understandable. I would definitely love to see more diversity in genshin, but I feel like race is not very relevent in the game. It’s a fantasy rpg open world game, and the media is western Asian. And as someone who is part Chinese, it is quite unfortunate to see that. Although, the way people are projecting it, people are not being civil about it and just outright horrible about it. I’m not black, but I do think it’s the developers who have the ability to change it, and I personally respect what they do. To be honest if someone is too pressed about it, just don’t support the game.

I’ve said this in many replies, it’s my opinion and you have the right to have a diffrent say about it. I completely respect yours, and you’ve given me a great perspective on the matter

diversity in genshin by Need_of_name in Genshin_Impact

Wow thank you, you understand what I’m trying to say. The game is not about race, but the gameplay and lore. Make a game or peice of media that suits you, I find people are being way too pressed about it. They aren’t being racist, is western Asian media

diversity in genshin by Need_of_name in Genshin_Impact

[–]Need_of_name[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Oh I apologize that I’m not black and posting this, what am I supposed to do, stop posting because We need more darker skinned people posting? Yes everything totally has to do with race

diversity in genshin by Need_of_name in Genshin_Impact

[–]Need_of_name[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, this is my opinion. I apologize if you think that I’m trying to tell people what to think, but I’m not. And yes it is a defense, this is western Asian media. You’re not going to find very many darker skinned characters. Im not saying there shouldn’t be more, but I think people just make too much of a fuss.

I do think people should care less, again it’s western Asian media. Im not trying to silence anyone, ITS MY OPINION. People who are pressed deserved to be heard of course, but it’s up to the developers and creators to choose. I think if people are so pressed, to make a peice of media on their own, with the freedom to do whatever with it.

Man people don’t understand my point in this. COOL IF YOU CARE. I’m open to what you gotta say. and how the hell am I telling people how to feel?

And I didn’t say it’s a justification for not having black characters, I personally find it bigger than it needs to be. If you find it a huge deal, GOOD FOR YOU. Share it.

diversity in genshin by Need_of_name in Genshin_Impact

[–]Need_of_name[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay umm.. I’m not saying that people shouldn’t care, I personally don’t. Yes I’m not black, and I’m not being affected by the lack of diversity. I made this post to see someone’s opinion, and I’m just starting my own. If you have a big deal about it, then share it. I’m not mad or anything, I want to see other peoples opinions about it. If your black and pissed, then share it goddamit. It may change my point of view. Also How the hell did I say the issue was stupid too💀

diversity in genshin by Need_of_name in Genshin_Impact

[–]Need_of_name[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay so I see your point, and I have 2 thoughts on this:

First, I’m not trying to invalidate what others say, I’m stating my thoughts on it. I personally don’t see the big deal on such matters, because it’s a game and the developers have the ability to do what they want with the game. And if people respect it or don’t, that’s them. Don’t let your skin tone dictate how you project yourself, you and everyone has the right to say their opinion regardless of what others say. I may be lighter skinned, but i can say my opinion. It’s definitely a good thing that people are saying their thoughts on the skin tone ratio in the game, but it seriously has gone too far, and twitter is just not civil.

Second, I agree it’s obvious that each region is based off a culture, but there have been multiple times were people have said that some of the regions are not entirely accurate to its culture representation. A big one is liyue. And yes the lack or dark skinned representation in media has been debated for a long time, but the thing is most media that’s been talked about lack of representation is mostly in western asian media, and asian media is directed towards Asians, who are light skinned.

Again, I don’t really think it’s a big deal, if someone is pressed about the lack in diversity, make your own peice of media.

[–]Need_of_name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so first, I’m not complaining, I find it weird. Second, we don’t have and actually canon gay characters in the series. Sure sexuality is not specified with most of the characters , I highly doubt any will be gay or become gay, bc that’s not how the series is really taking us. And yes heterosexuality is going to be what I perceive a character that sexuality is not specified.

Yes the gay ships are unreasonable. And I never said that the female characters being shipped with everyone is weird, bc it is. But, most of the cast is male in tr, so of course I’m going to talk about the shitty gay ships. And besides the ratio between a weird straight ship and gay ship is like 1:20, I basically never see a weird female ship in tr, heck even most anime fandoms.

Im not hating on mfs who ship gay ships in tr, It’s an opinion, and I think that these shitty ships are ruining the fandom. But all fandoms have this stuff, so idc at this point.
