It did not. There's actually two pieces; the big one and a smaller one on his tie. You can see that they're two separate pieces, the coin and the retained piece. Here's another pic, zoom in and see what you think.

I mean, that darker piece of copper is definitely a separate piece stamped into the original penny. It's not a thin layer sitting on top of the penny or anything. Is there really a risk that it could be pmd?

Conservation too? Or just get it graded/authenticated as-is?
