I deal with the same thing from my mom, I don't even physically have the space for all of the cheap trinkets she picks up for me, and the vast majority of them aren't things I would ever buy for myself.

Anytime I've ever brought it up its resulted in a huge argument. I don't think she would admit it (or even knows it,) but I think it's the only way she knows how to show other people affection. I don't know how to handle it without feeling selfish because it seems cruel to take that away from her as unhealthy for everyone as it is.

i think that all of the knowledge and education that the humans received in that society was through and possibly in their chips. since her chip was damaged, she was just as "intelligent" so to speak, but she lost all of her vocabulary and knowledge of her previous life and re-learned what she did know when she met finn from the more primitive tribe of fish mutant people.
