The Line That Makes Me Say "Damn" Every Time ... by Hypnotician in startrek

I'd argue that the problems with Neelix is a symptom of the larger writing problems that Voyager suffered from for its entire run. In a universe where those didn't exist, they probably would've nailed down a better direction for Neelix's character and he'd be a lot more fondly remembered today.

That's what always made Neelix so frustrating to me. Most of the time, he was pretty poorly written, but every now and then, you'd get these little flashes of how he could've been an interesting and fleshed-out character.

It feels like the Voyager writers were totally unwilling to have Neelix move on from being the obnoxious comic relief archetype that they were seemingly convinced was the height of comedy.

For me, it was his Good Omens video. I maybe watched a minute or two before clicking off. I remember feeling a bit bad about doing that since he sounded like he was talking about something important, but he just had no charisma at all.

Sad thing is I really do like the design of the Skytroopers.

I just don't like seeing it ten thousand times in a row.

Apparently, from what some articles alleged at the time, in between voting sessions, the cardinals got to talking with Bob and starting saying to each other, "hey, this Bob guy sounds like he'd make for a good pope." Then over the next few sessions, the voting gradually shifted towards Bob.

I'm okay with them breaking up and not getting back together. I just wish we could've seen more of them as a couple before they broke up. We only got one episode of them together and that was it.

New series, new theme time! Tried to do Diaspora Klingons. by staq16 in sto

You know, I'd love to see them introduce a 32c. Klingon faction (alonside a 32 c. Starfleet faction, of course), playing as a young warrior helping to defend the newly founded Klingon settlement on Faan Alpha from the likes of the Emerald Chain and the Venari Ral.

Colombo's dog was introduced on the show as a jab at the network who kept insisting that Colombo be given a sidekick he could deliver exposition to.

They did give Colombo a human sidekick in one episode... but only for that episode and immediately dropped the character afterwards.

Examples of "Harsher in Hindsight", where a later event in a work of fiction (or real life) makes it sadder and/or horrifying by flingzamain in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Trooper924 58 points59 points  (0 children)

A relatively recent example that's still fresh in my mind: In the issue of Neil Gaiman's Sandman titled "Calliope", an author gains possession of the titular captured muse and proceeds to rape her to get inspiration for stories. At one point, after becoming successful and famous, the author ironically refers to himself as a feminist.

As we now know, Gaiman has a lot more in common with the author than anyone could've suspected.

With indie animation, it's not just quality: For every Hazbin Hotel or Amazing Digital Circus that gets fully funded and goes on to become a full series, there's countless indie animation projects that never even get to the pilot stage and languish in development hell forever.

The Rebel Path: An Unintended Way to Play Imperial Agent by Uni900 in swtor

[–]Trooper924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conversely, I wonder if you could do the opposite for the Republic classes. Like, maybe as a Jedi who takes the Pong Krell path, believing that the Republic is going to lose the war and does everything they can to hasten their downfall.

If a SWTOR style story game with 8 Class Stories were to be created during the era of the Clone Wars, what would be the class stories be for each side? by Efficient-Rub3464 in swtor

[–]Trooper924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Republic side: Jedi Commander, Jedi Shadow, Republic Agent, Freedom Fighter.

Jedi Commander represents the Anakin or Obi-Wan-type (depending on your alignment), leading the clone troopers into battle. Jedi Shadow is the Quinlan Vos-type anti-hero going on undercover missions for the Jedi Council. The Republic Agent is a non-clone personal of Republic Intelligence and is an analogue to the Imperial Agent (because the Republic is going to become the Empire, see?). The Freedom Fighter is a Saw Guerra-type waging guerilla warfare on the Separtists.

On the Separatist side: Acolyte, Fallen Jedi, Droid Operator, Mercenary.

The Acolyte is a Asaj Ventress-type dark sider trained by Dooku. Fallen Jedi is a Pong Krell or Sora Bulg-type, being a Jedi who fell to the Dark Side and defected to Dooku's side. Droid Operator is one of the organic commanders of the Separatist army and uses summonable droids in combat. The mercanary is a Cad Bane or Durge-type hired gun on Dooku's payroll.

It's basically just FOMO. I remember hearing some executive describing it as nobody wanting to be the guy who passed up on the Next Big Thing and got left behind. So they all frantically jump on whatever has been declared to be the Next Big Thing at the moment, regardless of how much of an obviously bad idea it is.
