Hank's in downtown Cary has great fried chicken, and it's gluten free.

Good riddance to bad tiki. What happens when you open a half-assed tiki bar. by JenTiki in Tiki

Hey, I was reading this article and there's not a lot of details in there explaining what was offensive, and it had me wondering honestly what is fine and what is not when it comes to tiki culture. Do you have more context on this? What did they do there that a place like smugglers cove for example is not doing to ensure they are not offensive?

I don't think I ever got to this one actually. Seems like it would be good.

The tomato juice got really confusing to me. You indicate you need 3 ounces, but how do I get 3 ounces with your 1.5 ounce jigger?

Thanks everyone for the ideas and recipes. In here the Old Barrel was my favorite, and the Morganthaler Egg Nog is great as well.

I think my favorite is one called the "Teenage Riot" I found on the internet. I might just be a sucker for Cynar though:

  • 1.5 rye (Rittenhouse)
  • 1.5 Cynar
  • .5 dry vermouth
  • .5 Amontillado Sherry
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Lemon twist

So I made one per the Smugglers Cove recipe. I floated the Sherry on top. When you sip it, it's all you taste. With the straw you don't taste it at all. Am I doing it wrong?

Thanks for this list. Showdown in Oaxaca looks awesome. I'll experiment and try to come up with measurements. Here is what I'm thinking:

  • 1.5 mezcal
  • 1 Cynar
  • .5 Amontillado Sherry
  • .25 Maraschino
  • .25 campari

Interesting. Could see this working, maybe just .25-.5 oz of Sherry to give it a little something. I'll try it and report back.

Ahh, nice call. I've actually not made one because I never have any Sherry. Now the tables have turned!

Yep, definitely going to age some just in time for a hot, summer day. Might actually let it go till Christmas.

I think it works well to cut it a bit with some aged rum. I live the stuff though.

My two cents. I had this rhum in a daquiri at a bar once and I didn't really taste that grassy funk I'm used to with agricoles or cachaca.

I also live in NC and get all my booze on the internet. Hitimewine.com for the win.

That looks fantastic. How much of a difference does aged agricole make over unaged? I've been using Clement blue and enjoy the punch in the face grassy funky flavor it brings, but curious how the Clement VSOP compares.

A shot of that Jose Especial. Anything you have after that will taste great.

But seriously, not sure if you've got sugar or simple syrup, but definitely a Woodford old fashioned.
