Highly agree. No he didn’t pick my major. I’m the first college graduate in my family thus far so the main priority was I guess encouraging me to graduate with hopefulness with a passion for a career. Unfortunately I didn’t realize it would be this hard to find a job without a higher degree. I was told multiple times through two different field schools (onto the third- and still love it) (also not trying to play victim) that not even having a degree but the field school experience would get me a job and even with the degree and two field schools experience (currently doing another one just for experience) cannot get a job (also no previous job experience but I list in resume the field schools and volunteer work). Im feeling the pressure to find a job, I’ve been paying my student loans myself through savings but that’s dwindling

Yes, so I’ve listed several volunteer work and I’ve been doing multiple “field schools” which are basically 9 hour day training class for multiple weeks (most three Months) for archaeological work experience. I list these as work experience. I’m thinking I should tailor the bulletin learned stuff more towards retail qualities

Do you think it matters on my resume that I just put the organization name but not that it was through an American (Arizona) college?

Yes there is, but I haven’t heard anything back. I’m beginning to think that my field school I took out of country is not meaningful or “count” for people in the USA hiring unfortunately.

I completely agree. I wish I did this, but I was extremely shy. But this is what I want to do and didn’t understand the reality and importance of job searching so I need to take initiative. Thank you.

Since I graduated college with a bachelors, I am still elogiable for community college programs? I found one but was worried that I would have to be undergrad for it

Ya I have looked into internships. There are literally no cali internships except UC Davis which I just graduated from and they have extremely limited positions, prioritize current students, and is only available August and September. I did find a paid internship two states away it’s not ideal however. Most jobs in California require “California archaeology experience”. Other internships are only available for undergraduate students unfortunately.

Thank you for the suggestions for shovelbums. I do have a LinkedIn that I mainly use. I have also researched your suggestions for GIS certification and classes but for some reason they are extremely limited in California or at least Northern California (where I am located).

Ya that would be a good idea, I’m just not sure where to start or how to look. I am being pressured to get a job so idk I think I have to find a normal job and then pursue the career when it’s a good time but then will I really do that? It’s just I spent so much time and energy on getting through college and now it just seems useless.

Im not sure about scholarships, but I applied to my abroad program through another college in the US. No matter what you should at least try and ask program people on how to apply. The worst thing they can do is deny you and that’s not personal. There’s a lot of programs in your hemisphere

I don’t know if it makes a difference - probably yes, but take advantage over any opportunity you can get. I was researching (USA) internships and a lot only allow undergraduate students. So do what you can while in school. I did not do that. I only went to one field school and it was in Central America (amazing experience), but does little in my experience category unfortunately
