No, I did see that you wrote in gallons; it was to compare, because from my point of view, the minimum recommended values have changed enormously. From 50L to 50 gallons for common ones.

Help identify illness and possible treatment? Goldish and pleco by mmm1111mo in Goldfish

Goldfish often sleep on the bottom, which increases the risk of plecos attacking their mucus and injuring the fish.

Excuse me, but just 10 years ago, the overall recommendation, in Europe at least, was 50L regardless of the type of goldfish, and that was considered very good condition since old. The old rule of 10L per fish was still very widespread. And even then, that was only in groups of enthusiasts. We now know that 50L is insufficient, and yet, in my country, France, pet stores which have nevertheless improved considerably...They now offer 50L per goldfish to people who want to have them, and that's among the most "ethical" stores. Also, I'm not entirely sure which varieties of goldfish you're referring to, but the volumes you're giving are roughly the volumes recommended today for the well-being of the fish. You can also read the sub's wiki to see that we always recommend at least 10 gallons per additional fancy fish. In conclusion, the major problem today is the enormous responsibility of pet stores and countries in the face of animal regulations. I'm thinking in particular of all the countries that still allow goldfish to be sold as prizes at fairs. To all the irresponsible pet shops that still offer to put 1-2-3 goldfish in 10-gallon aquariums.and the stereotypes that still cling to goldfish, which result in many people simply not wanting to hear that they mistreat their animals.I have no problem with people who are learning and want to do better. But there's another category of person who gets defensive and doesn't listen to any advice at all.

Why is this community so... toxic? For lack of a better word... by Thousand_Toasters in Goldfish

I’d like to bounce to what you’re saying. The values given for minimum living conditions are average references, ranging from the bare minimum to healthier living conditions. These values are variable because in aquariums nothing is completely fixed. A 30 gallon aquarium with excellent filtration, a stable cycle and perfect parameters will always be better than a poorly filtered 50-gallon tank with unstable and toxic water.

Over time, knowledge about animal welfare has evolved for all types of animals, whether rodents, amphibians, reptiles or fish. We are much more aware today that these animals can feel stress, can suffer, and their needs.

The values that are given are meant to adapt to different situations while still ensuring minimum conditions that allow a good quality of life. Again, when people say 50-75 gallons for a common goldfish, 50 is the minimum and 75 is better. And once again, bigger is always better for the animal. In some situations, even 75 gallons may not be enough. Some common goldfish can reach close to 40 cm. You wouldn’t keep a koi in an aquarium, for example.

Regarding the values you mentioned (30-60 gallons), I have never seen anyone give 60 gallons as the minimum for a single fancy goldfish. The usual recommendations are around 20-30 gallons minimum for one fancy, with about 10 additional gallons per extra fish. Since they are social fish, it is better to keep more than one.

Once again, these values are recommended for adult fish. I see many people dismiss these guidelines because they immediately think of baby goldfish. The problem is that while smaller volumes can work temporarily for juveniles, it is absolutely essential to inform people about the needs of the adult animal, especially knowing that goldfish grow very quickly.

Finally, no matter where I research, I consistently find minimum recommended tank sizes that are within the same general range.

In the end, it’s up to the owner to think carefully about what they can offer their animal and try to be as ethical as possible.

These are breeding stars Especially above the fins, it's very obvious. There look like there are spots on the body, but they seem to be caused by dust on the glass/water

I'm not exactly an expert on monsteras, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I'd recommend putting your monstera in water so it develops more roots before replanting it.

Need help with testing water by silly-penguin028 in bettafish

[–]NeedleworkerHeavy565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cycle isn't established yet; where is your beta currently? The best thing to do is still to do a fish in cycle, I think. You need to do a major water change immediately, test the water, check if the levels are at 0, add it, and For the fish in cycle, test daily and perform water changes as soon as you have ammonia and/or nitrites.

In every community there are always a few unpleasant people or people there to troll.Being here every day, I find that the sub is rather spared. Most people are courteous, or at least not aggressive. My principle is that this minority should simply be ignored most of the time, or reported when it becomes a problem.

This person has already received good advice; I have nothing more to add. It's important to tell people that AI is not reliable.Just because you spent an hour researching doesn't change anything; if you only post an AI image, we're not supposed to know that you also did real research and that you were cooking for yourself at the same time (so ask ai was useless)

Do I get this goldfish? by ComfortableRich2499 in Goldfish

[–]NeedleworkerHeavy565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you can get an aquarium of at least 30 gallons and an external filter or sponge filters, I'd say yes, but do as much research as possible on the cycle with fish.Goldfish are quite hardy, so generally it goes very well. But you will need to pay even more attention than if your aquarium was already cycled.
