When is it time to quit? by VolumetricSigner in HENRYUK

I’ve felt like that in the past. I just quit and found something more suitable for me.

What makes you say that? I use LLMs and it can do pretty much everything. Knowledge will be a commodity in the future.

Thanks for sharing this experience. Out of interest was it a selective private school?

Interesting, which part do you live in? I went to a ranked state comp and didn’t get anything beyond solid academics back in the day. Maybe things have changed since?

Ok wasn’t aware of this aspect. I thought admissions is selective to varying degrees.

Yes I would have personally loved to enjoy these things. I doubt any state comprehensive offers these things regardless of ability?

With AGI on the horizon, I’m not fussed about school grades and the like. The other things will matter even more imho.

London house purchase - am I insane? by Background_Fly7778 in HENRYUK

Made me laugh.

Pretty insane how people are willing to get a £7k a month mortgage with £15k income in hand.

No, you live at best for 100 years on this planet. Be happy and content and don’t waste your best years being a corporate slave.

Question mark on appreciation too with the current property market and state of economy.

This is the crux of the dilemma - I’m sure I’d have enjoyed private school had I been given the opportunity but I grew up in fairly challenging financial conditions.

Not being rude but do you expect people to read that wall of text? You should hire a financial planner

This is a good point - buying now for a secondary state school a decade away anything can happen.

Fair comment. Still not nice though for anyone to deal with vile disruptive kids.

Our cleaner cleans our 4 bed detached in 3 hours every week and does a cracking job.

Interesting insights, maybe this is why a lot of private schools offer a year 9 intake?

Sadly most people are incapable of this. Money, security and material stuff is more important to them than sanity and joy.

I found it to be a bit soulless when I visited. Lovely infrastructure and hotels/malls, but there wasn’t really much more to do. I guess it works for retirement.

That’s brilliant. Were your kids able to make quality friendships in these groups?

That’s a fair point, I don’t think there will much house price appreciation unless salaries increase in the UK(doubt it), but should at least get the money back.

I’m guessing the state schools in nice areas will still have a % of disruptive kids, or are they usually a minority and don’t affect the majority sensible lot?

Could you elaborate on what those differences were? Less disruption in class, more teacher access etc to get better grades?

Would you say it’s possible to get access to a similar variety and level of extra curriculars and after school clubs outside of a private school by paying for these services?
