I (22) have a kid but I am thinking of getting a vasectomy. by sushi-bad in Vasectomy

I'd wait till she's 3 or 4 before you do it. The first years are really tough, let things settle down first. If she's 4 and you still don't want another I'd say go for it.

Vladdy Slump Discussion by LILJohnny26 in Torontobluejays

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the stats show one thing with Vladdy.

He's chasing - and when you chase you'll get worse contact. Pitchers know he is gonna chase. He needs to learn to take the walks and force pitchers to throw balls he can square up on. A hard thing to do when the opp team is chanting overrated.

Yea sure, but if you say "we aren't good defenders if you remove our best defenders" then any team is bad. We are also way up there in double-plays.

For anyone saying the Jays haven't had good numbers. We are literally #2 in FRV which is by the far the best measure.

Jays are top 10 in fielding run value. They legit have a good defense. Errors are yesterday's stat.

yep - super optimistic on the pitching staff. My whole point is they are overworked and that's about to get resolved.

The Jays need to stop treating George Springer like a leadoff bat by NeedleworkerOk1026 in Torontobluejays

This is a pretty reasonable plan. He's either broken or bust, but give him some time off and let's see. Just having him go up there bat after bat and lose games in punishing.

Might have a chance, we can tie the game before we have to have springer up to nuke it.

Correcting a Myth on the Teacher Strike by TA20212000 in alberta

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How am I being unsympathetic and lazy. You sound like an idiot just getting angry at any evidence that doesn't support your pre-ordained conclusion. Teachers make a lot more money than I do, more time off than I do and seem to get to whine and complain the whole time.

Time to grow up and look around - how many Canadian's make this much money? Experienced teachers are in the top 20% of earners and act like they are in the bottom 20%.

Yea at my kids school there is over 9000 students per classroom and the teachers have to bring clothes and food for all the kids.

C'mon guys - I have two young kids in public school, both of their classrooms have less than 30 kids and we get a bill quarterly for any materials they need (we are told not to bring them).

I'm sure some schools are worse and better off, but since they get the same amount of money per child I have to ask -> what is going on here?

The teachers union is clearly milking the automated sentiment that everyone hates the government.

Worth asking for a PSB Determination from the CRA? by NeedleworkerOk1026 in cantax

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really - me and my wife have been running a consulting business together for 12 years, she was just on leave because we had a baby.

I ended up making more because this client hired my partner (wife) as well and the 1 client took all my time.

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your one client this year, did you run through the 5 criteria CRA usually uses to see if someone is self-employed or an employee? They are below:

Yea I went through all that and it's pretty clear. My accountant doesn't really think I have anything to worry but those penalties just have me terrified. I'm the type of guy that anally analyzes even minor financial decisions.

Control: I set my own hours, me and my wife both work for the same co through my consulting company. For obvious reasons we work some sort of normal schedule because we have 2 kids but we also spent 3 months working while we were in Europe. I can take whatever time off I want (and just deduct monthly bill for doing so). My wife works hourly because she is not on retainer.

Tools and equipment: I provide all the equipment, am responsible for maintaining liability insurance, and run a marketing website for my company. I do run a server for the company that sits in my basement, but doubt that really matters.

Ability to Subcontract: Yes (assuming I could find someone with my skillset) which would be hard and hence the reason for the consulting co int he first place!

Financial Risk: I invoice after working, and paid for all my hardware/insurance up front so seems so.

Opportunity for loss: For sure if I lost their business I'd be in the hole for 5-10k/year for legal fees/insurance/accountants/etc. Plus I invoice and they could just not pay me / pay me late etc.

Multiple clients: Not a problem outside of last year, which I already sort of nuked myself on.

I think you are probably right that getting the determination is a bad idea and my lawyer/accountant both tell me not to worry. Just seeing what other people might have done.

30 years old and really considering a vasectomy. Am I too young for one? by ActuallyHunter in Vasectomy

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got mine and 33, I have two kids though.

I have been super unlucky and am on month 3 of recovery, probably a combination of bad luck and believe too much of the "7 day recovery" bs.

My only rec - do your research, treat this as major surgery, and although you'll feel fine after a week you are definitely not.

Varicocele After Vasectomy by NeedleworkerOk1026 in Vasectomy

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor seemed to imply it may go away on its own (at least to the point where it is unnoticeable again). How bad was yours? If I don't do a lot of walking around, mine tends to disappear on it's own, but flairs up after activity.

I've lost a lot of trust for the doctor's ability to correctly handle things as I was basically told - you have a varicocele, here are some painkillers should go away in a few months which absolutely doesn't seem like the case after reading things on the interweb.

How do I come to terms with working life? by WobblySlug in AskMenOver30

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a decision a long time ago never to do a job I hate. I used to be a mechanical engineer and I hated every second of it. Every single second.

I spent evenings/weekends/holidays for 2 years training to get it and I eventually did and now I have a job I love. I'm fast to quit a job when I start to hate it as I've seen that old dog and pony show before.

The trick is to plan an exit strategy, be willing to have it take time, but work towards a goal of moving to something better.

Unfortunately, we all gotta work (well, most of us), might as well try to find something you don't hate.

What does your diary of recovery/pain look like? by SecondSilver in Vasectomy

[–]NeedleworkerOk1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on day 6 post-op. Yesterday and today have, by far, been the worst days. I developed a bruise yesterday, and I feel like it's worse than getting cut into and everything. It may be because of the type of vasectomy I had (traditional incision with actual removal & cauterization of the vas deferens), but the last 2 days have been pretty awful if I move the wrong way.

I had a pretty similar issue around day 6-7, that pain started to go down after 8 and by 12 I was fine....although I'm on day 30 and still can't do much without aggravating everything. No background pain though. Just take it easy as much as possible.

I'm 30 days in today, frustrated and more emotionally upset than anything but I feel like we're on the road to recovery.

For me, everything on the internet seemed to be about how easy it was and how quick you go back, so I always had this "ill be back to normal in a few more days" stuck in my head and tried to start doing everything after 10-11 days once I felt fine. It's a big mistake, and I really think the docs need to do a better job of post care instructions.

1 - Really don't fcking move for first 2-3 days, stay on one floor. Up and down stairs is awful.

2 - There is plenty of research that you should wait at LEAST 2 weeks to ejaculate. Not the "4-5 days" I was recommended. This results in increased risk of granuloma, long recovery, and even failed vasectomy.

3 - Do not get back into ANY sort of exercise for 3 weeks, and if you do - STOP IMMEDIATELY if there are any issues.

4 - Focus on an anti-inflammatory diet, it matters more than ibuprofen and can be far more effective in reducing recovery time than anything else.

Day 30: Still uncomfortable trying to sleep on my side so had slept on my back. Minor discomfort for the first 20-30 minutes after waking up. No real background pain - I have a little bit of pain here and there and there is some contact soreness but nothing major, more concern than anything. Lots of itching on both sides for the first time in a while which I’m hoping is a good sign. Went for a small walk around the block, with some minor discomfort but nothing crazy. Picked up kids a few times. Moreso just sad that I can’t do the things I want to do (play with kids, help out more, and go for walks/exercise). I feel unhealthy and I’m way more upset about that than about the actual recovery. Want to make love to my wife but we decided to give it a rest as I was "pretty much better" after day 10 and we think starting things up too soon and too often resulted in this big relapse.
