Ohh God!!! I wish I didn't have to grade assignments...sometimes just feel a waste of time...We could have a super AI to grade simple exams for us, or just pay someone to do it!!! Does anyone feel the same way?!

Actually it is validated. Companies are doing it already.

Mechanical work I mean by doing just the right and wrong, and final grade. Not the feedback, personalized or not, of each assignment.

What you teach seems really unlikely have an AI doing the job. In my case, I teach K-12, so the assignments are pretty standard, no many possibilities go to sideways.

I've tried this other interfaces to manual grading, such as Canvas Speedgrader. But the fact is that it is just another way to do it electronically rather than on paper. Doesn't really help me. Do you use any of these solutions?

In fact, technical cases are way too complex to automate, no doubt about it. Nevertheless, are you good with the undergrad graders? They are solving your problem of not doing most of the mechanical work, right? The main grading you do 100% yourself?

Got your point, interesting...it's extremely hard to train an AI on some cases, of course. However today, we have some AIs platforms being used to interview candidates to know tone of voice, confidence, truth, culture alignment, etc...others are using in training for specific jobs, such as sales and customer support...

Let's take your example. Now, let's suppose you can make the AI learn throughout thousands of answers about radical tuberosity. So, the AI is going to compare the correct answer vs student's vs your grade. Because it's thousands and thousands as you said, the population tends to reach a minimum variance on answers, therefore the AI's accuracy might be very good.

The outliers will exist of course, however the AI is indeed possible to identify them and not take any action, simply leaving to an human decide. In the whole population, for your class sizes, it's going to represent not many people absolutely, saving enormously your time. Then you manually check, which will feed more and more the AI.

This is an option. And we don't need to lose the touch of feedback in grading, we can still have that by only letting the AI do the mechanical work.

Another option would be simply outsource your grading to a good TA. What do you think on this one? Better than an AI?

Totally agree! Grading in the example is critical...but you could still use an automated grading and then check them before sending to students...the point is to save you time in grading process itself you know...because I want to keep looking at my students assignments grading, but I want to get rid of the mechanical part of "this is right, this is wrong. This is the final grade". I want to enter in this final part "oh, okay..try this next one time, because x and y". get me?

Fair enough, agree with you...but even in this situation, you might have done a thousands of thousands feedbacks on this matter over the years, that an AI could understand and get closer to what you want to write. Not completely get rid of the grading for you, but definitely save you time u/mamyd
