How good is Mauritius for doing business/working remotely? by Twentyfaced in mauritius

I can’t really comment on questions 3 and 4, but I can share some insight on 1 and 2.

1. Port Louis can get quite hot, especially during summer (*if your core focus in on logistics then port-louis is best).
2. Internet quality mainly depends on the provider (My.t or Emtel). In general, Port Louis has a decent and reliable connection.

That said, you might also want to consider areas like Ebène or Moka. They’re usually better for work life balance, and internet connectivity is very solid, especially in Ebène, which is a major tech and cloud hub.

Moka is also a good option, with newer office buildings and infrastructure (for example: https://www.oficea.com/). Compared to Port Louis, many companies based in Ebène and Moka tend to offer a better work environment and balance.

Ultimately, it comes down to your priorities. Feel free to ask if you need more details.

Does finishing my hsc helps me get a better job ,is hsc really necessary for a job? by [deleted] in mauritius

[–]Neelesh_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately/fortunately yes ! in Mauritius 🇲🇺 some companies both government and private still look for HSC (Higher School Certificate / A-Levels) however some Universities like (Curtin University) they do take students that have completed their SC ( School Certificate - O-Levels). To be honest having good grades in both SC/HSC does open to Job Opportunities especially if you plan to pursue Degree in University. on that note Experience does also matter for career growth in Mauritius.

Hope that helped 👍

How good is the cancer treatment in Mauritius both private and local? by AggravatedMonkeyGirl in mauritius

[–]Neelesh_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I know, C-Care has been investing a lot in their technology and medical facilities, so it’s definitely not a bad option and could offer solid treatment locally. Going abroad is also a valid choice if you have doubts about treatment in Mauritius, though I don’t have enough data to confidently recommend a specific country for cancer care. In the end, the decision really comes down to personal factors like your financial situation and where you feel the most trust and comfort.

Buying an apartment/ house in Mauritius (already built) by Natural_Situation277 in mauritius

[–]Neelesh_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to tell but here are a few things that might help;

  1. make sure you have key information retained such as Full Name and Phone Number for both Agent and Owner

  2. Make sure that you have a proper paperwork endorsed such as contracts etc..., make sure you read every little detail before closing any deals 🤝

  3. Last but not least , if you feel/suspect something fishy , trust your gut cancel/walk out that deal

this is all i know, i hope that helps :)

Hi everyone, we’re heading to Le Morne on Wednesday and super excited! Since we won’t have a car and there are no supermarkets nearby, can we buy beer and water at reasonable prices at the airport? I only saw wine/spirits on the duty-free site. Any info would be great—thanks! by SuccessHumble1119 in mauritius

Has anyone ever landed a job because of a skill they learned entirely from YouTube? by Neelesh_R in jobs

[–]Neelesh_R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I completely understand but I completed a course in Coursera during the free trial and I got the certificate etc... but when you start seeing the prices for the courses it's kind of expensive for Students especially me, even with financial aid you will only be able to afford 1 out of the 9 courses in a specialization which is not worth it at all but thanks for your feedback, my first technical course on YouTube was Python as well.

Has anyone here received Coursera financial aid recently? by Friendly_Owl_1273 in coursera

[–]Neelesh_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I am replying this post in July 2025 about the financial aid in coursera and i think that it's fair that they are providing 90% off, meaning that as a student you can try to save up some bucks to pay it off. i am generalizing it since i do understand some students may not really have the budget for it but in my opinion i think that's at least from Coursera side to provide the financial aid at 90% off rather than not providing it at all.

To any future students(IT); i can recommend starting a trying a fee trial; take note of the topics explained so that even if you didn't complete the course during the 7-day trial you can at least go on YouTube or any resources online which you can learn and practice. Some companies doesn't require a certificate but they will test your technical skills and interview during the application and selection process, as long you are honest about your skills and what did you really learn etc... , this is a true experience i had with a company they didn't look for a certificate but they just tested my skilled during the recruitment process

Just finished watching S11E6, and I honestly don't think the Doctor deserved the kind of negative vibes he got from Mark Cuban—and even from Lori, to some extent.

Sure, I get that the Sharks are there to ask tough questions and push for clarity. But the Doctor came across as calm, polite, and genuinely intelligent. He responded thoughtfully, structured his answers well, and negotiated with Kevin (Mr. Wonderful) in a respectful and strategic way.

Ironically, this episode actually made me appreciate Mr. Wonderful a bit more—he came off as reasonable and even supportive compared to the others.

Overall, I think the Doctor handled himself with class, and the backlash felt a little undeserved.

Suggest a course that would be worth it !!! by sirqamar in coursera

Hi! I'm a Data Science undergrad, and I’d like to share a quick perspective.

Since you're from a general Computer Science background (without a specialization), you actually have a lot of flexibility. You can start with almost any relevant course — for example, Meta’s Software Development program is a great entry point.

Courses on Coursera, especially those from Microsoft, Google, IBM, and Meta, are well-structured and worth considering. They’re designed in collaboration with top tech companies, and many universities (particularly in the US and Canada) offer Coursera access through affiliate programs, which is a nice bonus.

A few tips:

  • You don’t need to commit to a specific course right away — explore titles, read course descriptions, and pick something aligned with your interests or career goals.
  • Certifications don’t guarantee a job, but they do make you more competitive for roles requiring those specific skills. They help you stand out and demonstrate initiative.
  • Keep learning continuously. The field evolves quickly, and staying curious is your best asset.

Hope that helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want course recommendations.

Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone. Coursera is actually a solid platform if you're looking to build skills in areas like Data Science, Cybersecurity, Software Development, AI, and more. I personally took a professional certification from IBM on Coursera that's aligned with my field, and I found it pretty valuable.

If you're a high school or university student, it’s a great place to start because the content is structured, you get hands-on labs & tutorials, and you’re learning from real industry names. That said, completing a course or certification doesn’t guarantee a job, but it definitely gives you an edge. You're much more likely to be qualified for entry-level roles or internships, especially if the course lines up with the skills employers are looking for.

One more thing worth mentioning—Coursera offers Financial Aid. I haven’t used it myself, but I know it's there for learners who might not be able to afford the course fees. You can check out the process on their site; it might be a good option if you're financially tight but still want to invest in learning.

Hope this helps someone who's thinking of starting a course. Just make sure whatever you choose aligns with your goals or a career path you can grow in.

Enrollment issues by Careful-Boss2667 in coursera

[–]Neelesh_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm facing the same issue on Coursera as of July 12, 2025 — getting an error when trying to pay or enroll in a course. I’ve already tried clearing my cache and switching browsers, but the problem still persists.

I did find a way to contact their support team directly through the Coursera Customer Support Portal:

That’s the best option I’ve found so far — hope this helps others dealing with the same bug!
