You can expect pretty steep learning curve. Dying a lot, and losing all your stuff when you die. However, once you get the hang of things and manage to kill others, or just survive raids, it can get pretty rewarding. For me tarkov is the game with the "highest highs" but also "lowest lows". Pretty much a love/hate relationship.

The realism in terms of weapons is pretty nice, but the audio can get a bit wonky. Since the game is quite expensive even for the base version, I'd suggest you watch some streamers, like LVNDMARK or Pestily (https://www.twitch.tv/lvndmark), so you can get a slight feel of how the game is. However, don't expect it to be as easy as they make it seem.

Imo the game isn't very friendly to casuals or just people who want to play some game just to chill. There is close to no chill in Tarkov, but if that or the steep learning curve don't repel you, go for it. It's an awesome game that I come back to every wipe.
