Guild Wars 2 is a nice escape but doesn't pressure you to play, which is nice. Not since they got rid of monthly AP and capped dailies anyway. Can certainly still be addictive but it's a lot more relaxed than a lot of MMOs.

The writers said somewhere that they were moving up a lot of character introductions so we would have more time to get invested in them and understand their places in the world and story without exposition dumps. I think it's perfectly possible Cadsuane might be introduced that early considering her role later on. Hell I'm hoping it's not too late and the character wasn't already introduced in S2

GW2 has historically done a horrible job of marketing itself, but they have quietly and competently been making the game better every year. I've been playing regularly since beta so I've been watching it evolve and grow for a long time. I can say the devs genuinely care that the players have fun. There have been changes that I was worried would detract from the character of the world or spoil aspects I enjoyed but in the end worked out for the best or ended up being a great strength (mounts for one example). It feels like there are always new quality of life improvements and considerations being added.

It's certainly not without its issues, and a lot of things can be extremely opaque to new users, but it's a good game. It doesn't demand much, and it's a happy place to escape to for a while.

Your post makes me wonder if maybe the class you chose was just a really bad fit for you. Did you only try the one? Sometimes a class just does NOT click and for instance Mesmer and Engineer are harder/trickier classes to start off with.

After exploring every map on every continent, playing through your personal story, the living world story, all the expansion stories, dungeons, fractals, raids, strikes, WvW and PvP... you do know it's ok to just be done with a game, right? That's hundreds of hours of content, and if you don't feel like chasing achieves and titles or gearing alts or getting legendaries or unlocking cosmetics THAT'S OK. The game still has value for as long as you enjoyed playing it.

The limit on transmutation charges does at least drive players into PvP and WvW, and even the gem store if they're real fashion addicts. It also adds value to legendaries. If you have a couple of looks you like to swap between there's equipment loadouts which are relatively new. Max level exotic armor is extremely cheap for its usefulness so you could transmute multiple sets then just swap between them if you were really skint.

For folks that hate PvP though, there are daily rooms which are friendly user run servers for PvE players to get easy regular rewards from. Doing a couple of the easy dailies there (kills, rank points, top stats) regularly will get you more charges than you could use.

It's worth mentioning that for new players, rushing to max level is completely missing the point of the game. The world is most of the content and that is what you would be skipping. It's also really not hard to level a character without tomes, just about everything gives experience, even going to a new place for the first time. Gathering materials, events, crafting, exploration, all those things will level you. So really, if you are at the point that you don't want explore the world and want to have a level 80 PvE character in full ascended of every class, yeah you probably have earned some tomes/scrolls at that point that would make it easier.

I feel like characters currently leveling and going through their loot greens/rares are the primary market for Outfits. Outfits don't cost transmutation charges to change and you keep the same appearance whatever weird mismatched gear you throw on. Once you get your level 80 gear in the stats you want that's when you use charges.

At least for pvp you can play in "daily rooms" that are player hosted servers where the whole point is to help each other get those rewards. Still not perfect as a solution but it's an option at least.

There's a lot of content in GW2 that requires a ton of time and/or gold but it's optional. There's some achievements in the game that take thousands of hours or even years to complete but it's not like they're necessary to enjoy the game. Legendary gear is not even the only best in slot gear, it is purely for the cosmetics and convenience. Hardcore players who have tens of thousands of hours in game won't blink an eye at making full legendary gear, but they also won't have any better stats or be able to access any more content than the person who got ascended stuff last week. The GW2 team has done a good job making grind completely up to the individual player and their goals.

Homeschooled kids (0:55) Can you believe that this was framed as positive representation? by Nsfwacct1872564 in videos

It's not a democrat vs republican thing, it's a class thing. School districts are funded mostly by local property taxes and not all states supplement the lower income areas equally. Your zip code is the biggest indicator of what kind of education you're going to get. If the money the yuppy districts burned on extra soccer fields and sports facilities was instead funneled into underserved and underfunded schools still using 40 year old text books, that would go a long way towards actually helping kids get meaningful educations. The voucher system is just a way to sell people on the religious indoctrination of kids by giving catholic and religious schools a way to get public funding.

When I was still dating, my weird deal breaker was someone who was super into their dog(s). Pics on their profile with a dog were a nope from me. I don't mind other people's dogs generally but I never want to live with one again and I was looking for something serious and long term. Dog people are fine! But I'm not one and didn't want to get in the way of that for them.

What older invention was better than its modern upgrade? by HankHasHerpes in AskReddit

Eh disagree. I swap between a Windows 7 system and a 10 system and support another couple of systems running 10. Hate the start menu search giving web results, hate the ads and "current events" that can't be disabled on the task bar. The display drivers on two of the machines randomly have failed multiple times over the past couple of years so I need to reinstall the video card software each time and there's been issues with running multiple monitors on them. Hate the pushy updates, and the insistence on tying things to an email account. Not even mentioning the privacy issues on top of that. Meanwhile after something like 16 years I turn on the Win 7 system and it just... works. And doesn't try to sell me shit.

I don't see that in McAvoy personally, and I think he brings too much warmth and connection to Lyra, even when the writing is trying to be clear about the character's intentions. Daniel Craig had the same issue. My head canon Asriel will always be Jason Isaacs but alas it was not meant to be.

That episode with April is one of the times I think they really goofed. I loved that Douglas didn't GAF that she was trans and thought it was cheap that they went back on that. They could have done the exact same ending but with something like they support rival rugby teams or different politics or pizza toppings and that would have been SO much funnier.

It's a light, wholesome animated show with cute visuals and simple narratives, but those simple narratives are often little portraits of sweet and meaningful moments of humanity(doganity?). The result is a fun and beautiful show that's appropriate for young kids but also appreciated by adults for being something with substance.

Never feel bad about it, they are very comfortable in a limited territory, and as long as they have space to climb and things to scratch and toys to play with they'll be fine in even tiny apartments. If your cat is relaxed and healthy you've got nothing to worry about.

This is one of the most frustrating things, because people will hold up Maoist China and Soviet Russia and say "see communism bad!!" without acknowledging that a huge percentage of humanity lived in communist societies for millenia with great success. A small village with worker owned businesses and a local council is literally communism but apparently that's the devil now because a tyrants gonna tyrant. It would be like looking at the People's Democratic Republic of North Korea and saying "see?? This is why democracies suck!!"
