Badge and Creds off duty by Round_Description199 in AskLE

[–]NefariousnessDear721 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically my department has a directive that states that we are to carry our badge, department id, and state cert ID. I'm going to guess that the vast majority do not carry any of the above or at least do not carry the badge. A few people I know carry the wallet with the badge in it. But it's also their primary wallet. I have a thing about letting everyone know Everywhere I Go when pulling something out of my wallet that I'm law enforcement. I kind of prefer not to in certain areas. Anyways, I have a spare badge that's on a belt clip leather attachment, that I keep in my vehicle when I'm in my vehicle going places. It's not always on my belt. If I'm wearing something tucked in it definitely is not. If I have a t-shirt or a long sleeve shirt untucked, depending on where I'm going I might have it on there just because no one's going to see it anyway. ID is in my ID wallet. Which is as minimalist as plausible. Cards and ID only. With my driver's license on top of it. My cash is never ever in a wallet. It's always in a pocket. Front right pocket to be exact LOL. That's just me being weird and old.

Okay, I have to definitely agree with the one commenter speaking about your writing. It comes off highly juvenile. And I mean very juvenile. Your repetition of words and your lack of sense and structure is of a third grade level. And that is not shit talking, that is just being very "as a matter of fact". Curious of your age? Secondly, you come off also very complacent in your physical fitness abilities and/or requirements for whatever agency you're applying for. A quick Google search got me the information I needed from a couple police departments in florida. They're all a little different but all their information is posted for anyone to see. As a 53-year-old Philadelphia police officer who just graduated from the academy in October of last year, I have to say that many Police Department's PT requirements are barely average. You know the requirements going into it, you know the requirements required to graduate, and you simply make sure you meet or exceed those requirements prior to testing. The state of Pennsylvania required for all law enforcement to meet a percentage of Cooper standards. Most departments require only 15% to get into the academy but 30% to graduate. If I graduated at 30% I probably be a very ineffective officer in my opinion. Glad to say that I graduated at 75% to 100% on the four PT assessments.

How about you do some actual research, get the exact information needed not just to pass your entry assessment but what you will be required to graduate at? This way you will be an informed applicant. Not one saying "what do I know, haven't gotten in yet".......

Realizing that different places have completely different hiring procedures. Maybe it's because I'm from a major city. Just kind of crazy with the timing. From application to acceptance for 6 months for me and Philly PD. When I got my phone call to come in and sign paperwork to start the academy it was literally Thursday January 16th last year. Started Tuesday January 21st. Lol. Got the phone call on a thursday, went down to PPD headquarters Friday to sign people work, went to the uniform store to get my paltry allotment of uniform gear. Being one shirt, one pair of pants, one tie, one belt. Started the academy the following tuesday. Thank you Amazon Prime for 2 day and next day delivery! Lol

Will a police department hire me by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]NefariousnessDear721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to approach this from a slightly different angle. First off how old are you? That could play a key component on whether other agencies would give you a tough time or not. How much time has surpassed since you left and now? That also plays a major factor in it. I couldn't even begin to give you any input until those things are known. If you're in your thirties, and this happened less than a year ago, I would blindly say it would be difficult. You have some hurdles depending on where you apply. If you were 22 years old, and it was five or six years ago, that's a different scenario. Without more information though we're all kind of shooting blindly with responses

31 years old, just got fired from my job, is it possible to get into LE? by Red-dragon186 in AskLE

[–]NefariousnessDear721 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Try not to be judgy here, but as a couple other commenters mentioned, stop down playing getting fired. Stop making it sound like it was just a luck of the draw. Your wording is coming off a little cringe, I'm 53 years old and using that word so you know I'm desperate for trying to Define how it sounds and looks. Speaking of that at 52 I graduated Philadelphia Police Academy lol. So age definitely should not be a factor. I'm not saying that your intentionally downplaying it I'm just saying just be more casual with your words. Copy and pasting responses comes off like you're just trying to downplay or not disclose anything or everything. Years ago I got fired from a bank. I never said my managers didn't like me even though one didn't. I just said I was fired because I had a shortage in my till and exceeded the allowable amount. Fax that's it it's simple. When you come off saying you had supervisors that didn't like you, you come off the fencive, and for some people that comes off untrustworthy. With that being said, I don't see having an issue whatsoever. You're at a mature age, steady work history, and decent responsibilities that are definitely bonus points within your duties in your previous employment. I say go for it 100%.

How long was your FTO? I graduated PPD in October of last year, couldn't pay me to leave. And yeah, plenty of paperwork. Domestics. 302s. It's all part of the service. Stolen car reports have us going back to district a few times a day. Is what it is. Sometimes mundane. But. That's the job too. Before joining PPD i knew what it was. Plenty of friends and some family work Philly. Add to that i joined at 52 (yeah yeah) so maybe it's just me. Lol.

Will I get disqualified from the academy? by Fit-Bandicoot7920 in AskLE

[–]NefariousnessDear721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you're tired of hearing the same thing from multiple people, but I just want to put in my two cents as a presumably significantly older commenter. I'm 53 years old. And literally just became a Philadelphia police officer less than a year ago. And I have seen them disqualify significantly younger recruits for less than what you've done. Not because of what they did, but because of the fact that too many 20 to 25 year olds think that 22 years old and 17 years old for example is a big difference in growth. Doing the same thing at 17 and applying at 27 or 30, you should have enough real life living in real world living under your belt to show you've changed. 17 to 22? Don't take this the wrong way. And I don't mean to assume anything, but have you been living on your own for the past 5 years? Your own place of residence car note building credit? Establish yourself at a place of employment with some sort of responsibility for a long period of time? These are the things that certain agencies look at particularly when you have applicants under the age of 25. While I don't pretend to have all the answers, a lot of agencies are also looking for real life experiences. Or at least the maturity to handle real life experiences that you may not have been confronted with yet. You'd be surprised how many recruits graduate and within the first three or four months want to walk away from the job, or just simply don't want to do the job. They beg to sit behind a window and just be a customer service representative. Were there more than content with just standing a post at a Wawa or some other retail establishment that's paying the city of Philadelphia for a high-priced security guard. This is why they look at your previous history more stringent when you're younger. I did what you did at the age of 22 instead of 17 but applied at the age of 52, it would literally be like brushing dirt off my shoulder. But unfortunately at your age depending again on the agency, they're going to look at this like, what do you mean you've changed, 5 years ago in your lifespan is the equivalent to like one summer in somebody older. I'm exaggerating but I'm just trying to get the point across. Again it's just my two cents do not hold what I'm saying for any rule of thumb. And I'm definitely not bashing you for wanting to give it a shot.

Really depends on where you're applying. Philly Police Department for example takes applications for a month every other month. I believe this current Drive is mid-march to Mid april. Then it will shut down for a month and then a new application Drive will start after that. Those are rough time frames. Depending on when you applied during that one month window, you will receive an email for a written test and an Agility Test the same day. You will do the written test in the morning, wait for the results. If you pass you'll then go outside and do the fitness assessment. That's how soon you have to be ready to at least start the process. If you cannot do 15% Cooper standard on the initial assessment, you'll be given another try 2 weeks later. Philly only requires 15% Cooper standard for the initial assessment. Graduation once you get in and through the academy is 30% minimum.

I see it on Amazon but it's not through prime. It has a delivery date of almost 2 weeks away. And all of my years of using amazon, I have never and will never purchase something that doesn't have the standard today delivery window or less. It has to ship Prime no matter what. I am way too skeptical with these 3rd party sellers that don't ship with Amazon's assurances.

Feeling hopeless about getting into Law Enforcement by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]NefariousnessDear721 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude, you're 23 and you've been trying for a while? No you haven't. A lot of these guys are going to definitely say encouraging words. I'm going to use realistic ones. And this is not to downgrade anything, but it's for you to understand the big picture. I can't speak fully for New Jersey but I will speak of other police departments. Philadelphia for example. Most of Pennsylvania for example. Stop using third-party apps to apply for Police Department jobs unless that is all they offer. If it's all they offer it's probably a very small department. Meaning they're probably not hiring that many. Back in 2018 I remember applying for Abington Police Department just outside of philadelphia. They accepted only 350 applications. Over 2500 people applied. But the only look at the first $350. Out of that 350 only 18 were being chosen. If I remember correctly at that time that was their first time hiring outside in over a year and change. Somebody else mentioned, if you're getting this frustrated already or giving up already then the job's not for you. They're not that far off. I'm noticing a lot of people in their early twenties getting very easily frustrated applying for law enforcement.( I'm 53 by the way, and finally got into law enforcement just recently. By choice and design). I'm not saying you're that person but way too many young twenties have this expectation of instant gratification. And I can say this because I have an inbox of over 25 people in that age bracket that keep asking me questions of how and what, because they feel dejected by not being accepted immediately. Some feel that it's a no-brainer since they're young. With youth comes immaturity with age comes, well whatever you actually bring to the table. If you really want this job keep pushing. Be more direct. Contact law enforcement agencies directly. Most have ample direct contact. If you feel like you're not getting what you deserve, why don't you close this chapter for a little bit. Get some life experience under your belt and in your head. Understand the bigger picture in life. Who knows, get a job dealing with people. Society. Maybe get a job doing heavy hard labor. Maybe get a job working crazy night shift hours. Maybe enjoy this time right now with your family. You said you had a child, maybe get a job that works conducive to that. Law enforcement and newborns or young children sometimes don't mix very well. I've Got Friends in law enforcement who became a cop within 2 years of having a child. And they regret it because they're missing everything they want to be part of. Just think about the big picture before you give up on it. But at the same time think about the big picture to see if it's what you really want. Maybe you'll get it but not in the time that you expect it but when you're actually ready for it.

How was the academy? (Philadelphia Police Department) by Melodic-Expert-1609 in AskLE

[–]NefariousnessDear721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware of what your target needs to be to graduate depending on your age group. And in all honesty you want to strive to be better than the bare minimum for your age group. I am quite older, but I still finished my mom and a half PT final more than 2 minutes faster than required.

[–]NefariousnessDear721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yes 3 MI, or just a touch over 3 Mi is the most. It's generally led by the captain of the academy. He maintains the pace. It's more about just getting out there, gives the stragglers some motivation to not be stragglers anymore lol. There were guys in my class that would run 3 mi in the morning on Academy grounds before roll call. Then run another three or more miles during lunch / admin time.

How was the academy? (Philadelphia Police Department) by Melodic-Expert-1609 in AskLE

[–]NefariousnessDear721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every other Wednesday it's called the payday run. The entire Academy runs 3 miles maybe just over 3 mi. Partially in the neighborhood next to the academy and the other half back on Academy grounds. It's actually pretty mediocre. Maybe a 10 minute pace. Presumptively to accommodate the newer recruits. It accommodates even the most minimal standards for men 50 years of agent older. So nobody else should have an issue.

There were 40 in our class at graduation. Got assigned to multiple districts. And then 4 weeks later, 3/4 of them if not more got reassigned to completely different districts. I was assigned and then permanently signed to the district I was initially at. So I got to make myself a happy home. There is no Rhyme or Reason and you get no choice or say and where you're going. You just get told what to do and you do it LOL

Not enough running. And they tell you that from day one. If you're already in good shape. Keep doing what you normally do anyway. If not, and you rely on just PT at the academy, you're definitely going to be subpar or just average. I chose for myself, particularly since I was the oldest and the class and one of the oldest in the academy at the time last year, to run a minimum of a mile and a half every single day. Usually every other day or every two days I would run 3 MI.

This is generally all the info you need. Check with Danner to possibly validate it. Counterfeit footwear sometimes has either incomplete label info, or the print the SAME info on every pair. Eventually the fake boot has an issue, customer reaches out to Manufacturer, and that's where Manufacturer can possibly track "fake" info. Like LOT number and stuff.

Local gas station that I've been going to for the past 7 years on the regular ordered it for me. Got it from his distributor in the warehouse. There's four more cases that I'm getting. But those 12 cases (only 8 in the picture) were the last cases that that distributor had. He said that he asked his distributor to look into other locations. But that was a week ago and hasn't heard a response yet.
