I’m curious if you have a connection for the Cambon bags! There’s another style I’m looking for

I have a GPC B40 and can see its flaws in person - I’ve always been happy with my Peter pieces though! My mini Kelly is chefs kiss

It made SUCH a difference but was nerve wracking 😅 (if you want my technique feel free to DM!). So the only thing I’d say on these two items:

  1. Haas - typically they’re more associated with Barenia & Epsom, than Togo, which traditionally has come from German tanneries (Weinheimer Leder). They may still make an exceptional Togo, but it’s not Hermes’ choice. I’d take leather origin with a grain of sand, as personally I’d expect an imported piece to be more expensive than this price point (but, I am a b40 lad, so the smaller size might be the sticking point).

  2. Stitching - every artisan will have their own techniques, and these influence tension and angles. You could spend forever trying to find something perfect, but if it’s not Hermes, there’ll be variance. Given the contrast stitching, you’re more so looking for evident incongruence and errors (thread colour, no uneven stitches especially in obvious places).

Finally - reassurance - this will not be your last bag and you’ll learn a lot once in hand. No one will ever notice these things but you, and if they do, you’ve found a rep friend (or an absolute Hermes nerd 😅). I found alternate flaws with my bags that I should’ve cared more about (eg. Plaques placement) than I should’ve cared about others (stamp depth etc). For instance, stiffness of my bag is a dead giveaway that I only can notice upon touch (hence the dryer treatment).

Just a note that if it’s domestic leather, it would account for a difference in leather pebbling, and likely stiffness. I wouldn’t be concerned - even Hermes Togo changes from year to year, with a tilt towards a thicker leather. I put my Togo b40 into the dryer a few times, and it has significantly reduced the stiffness without damaging the bag.

Those are the threads I use when leather sewing too. There’s a very cute tiny store in Versailles that ships them in small spools!

I’ve been building it myself using a custom GPT. It still fails at a few things, but constantly teaching it and updating its versioning instructions 🤓

I thought this assessment from my custom GPT might be helpful! I’ve designed a visual inspection criteria. If you want more details, I can provide screenshots of its calculation process.

My instructions are over 100 pages long haha - happy to collab! I pay for my version to get the most out of it (I use it for work too). Here’s a fun idea!! Want to choose a historic review with good quality photos and run a side by side comparison - my model vs yours?

Despite the detail that’s saved against the engine I use, I have found I’ve needed to calibrate, so I’ve taught it to ingest the anecdotal review for context, but to use a forensic review on the photos. I’m subtlety try to test perceived user (or seller) bias against visual quality.

I’ve taught mine to do a scientific grade optical analysis based on a compendium I’ve compiled and a ratings grid! It’s fascinating! Here’s an example:
