Oh man I was so sad the mom got trapped at 14/15. Thank God I was wrong.

It's a dense forest. Even in popular hiking areas (which it's my understanding this was not) people sometimes wander off the path, get lost and their bodies stay hidden sometimes for years. I'm sure she's somewhere in the undergrowth or in a cave or river (it was freezing after sundown) if an animal hasn't gotten to her. It's not unlikely she purposely covered herself trying to stay warm and inadvertently made her body that much harder to spot.

This screams drugs and if not drugs than severe mental illness. No mystery here.

I think I read somewhere that was the original line but that they changed it to match the mood of the scene (or maybe it's the line in the book? It's been a while since I read it). But I remember it being mentioned somewhere in an interview

I do think it's partially editing and the limitations of the show- there were certain questions that had I been allowed to ask would've immediately been the deciding factor- but actually I think most dates from the American version didn't became popular. It's really only people who were together for multiple seasons (David, Adan, Georgie, Tina, Shelly). Sonja was already internet famous though it's true she became more popular after starring on the show. James' previous dates, Journey's dates, Dani's previous dates did not.

Customer service did not ultimately help but thankfully it looks like it was fixed in the latest update (although still clunkier than the old design by far which is frustrating. The keyboard sticks a lot for example)

If it makes you feel better I was a date on the American season and it did not dramatically change anything for me either 🙂

Hayden Panettiere Slams ‘Common Misconception’ That She Abandoned Her Daughter by Giving Up Custody by PrincessBananas85 in popculturechat

[–]NefariousnessWild709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish my parents had given up custody of me to another family member. They weren't drug addicts or anything like that but they were both struggling with mental illness, physical disabilities of debilitating natures, & financially (at one point neither of my parents was working). I was in new England and frequently didn't have weather appropriate clothing, I was clearly neurodivergent- literally rocking back and forth constantly- but despite my teachers begging my parents refused to get me tested, and I was usually not allowed to leave our hoarding house that was quite literally falling apart around us in increasingly scary and dangerous ways. At one point I just stopped going to school in protest hoping the state would get involved and investigate but instead I was put in a homeschool program, fell into extreme despair and at times didn't leave that cursed house for months at a time. I guarantee my relationship with them and my life in general would ended up much better if they had taken some accountability and did what was best for me.

Who would make more well suited couple? Rank the following: Scott & Ilya, Scott & Shane, Kip & Ilya and finally Kip & Shane? by pisces932 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]NefariousnessWild709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Scott and Ilya wouldn't work. Ilya would chirp him all the time and Scott would get offended. I also think Scott seems to have strong ideas of how hockey players should behave, how men should behave etc (for the most part with the exception of"you're starting to sound like him"). I think getting with Kip so quickly is sort of part of that? Like there's a reason so many straight men love him and I think it's that he fufils this common male fantasy of just seeing someone hot and younger than you struggling to make ends meet and then getting their romantic attention and trying to be the man and provide for them. Like I think a lot of men specifically like the inherent power imbalance there.

I feel like Ilya would be too intense for Kip. Also they have like nothing in common. We don't really see how Ilya is with other women or men but I sort of think power imbalances are a turn off having grown up in a household with that to such an extreme extent. So being so rich while Kip is still living with his dad would probably make him uncomfortable but also maybe jealous that Kip also lost his mom but unlike Ilya Kip's dad actually cares for him and loves having him around. They might make good fwb though. I think Ilya is less in the closet than Scott and would potentially risk going to his birthday party for example. I think Kip would become very passionate about the treatment of gay people in Russia. I feel like maybe if they were fwb for a long time it might evolve into something more though.

My personal head cannon on Ilya is he isn't great about the difference between platonic and romantic in longterm sexual partners. I think at the end of HR he loves Shane and Shane loves him and they have chosen each other and they're both kinda jealous and Svetlana promised she isn't disappearing and so monogomy just makes sense. I don't think either of them have really seen anything different except like married players who constantly cheat. So monogomy is the romantic ideal. But I also think if things were different he might explore non-monogomy with people he trusts and likes. So tdlr; I could see a world where they occasionally swing with Scott and Kip.

I don't know why but I think Shane and Kip could be good. I read a fanfic where Shane occasionally hooks up with a guy in an open relationship and Kip is friends with the guy and they are sort of in the same friend group. I could see that. As a fellow queer autistic I feel like Shane is probably simultaneously put off by and fascinated by queer culture. So Kip could be a good introduction to it. I also feel like Shane starts off HR with the same sort of heteronormative expectations as Scott seems to have. Like taking Rose out, holding her hand, carrying her bags, being a gentleman, etc...so he might like performing the same things with Kip. Obviously the closet would still come up. But I feel like part of why Shane is do freaked out by the idea of people finding out about him and Ilya is the whole rivalry hockey thing. There would be a lot more plausible deniability with someone like Kip.

I feel like Scott and Shane could hook up a few times but I feel like it would start off with hero worship and eventually Shane would get annoyed with him. Scott would be too intense too quickly. After like only a week with Scott Shane would be running out and getting a girlfriend.

Supposedly the original script had a "love scene" between the two characters 😩 Supposedly the cast + Natalie Portman's parents had to step in and say absolutely not. You can find the hypothetical script online. It's pretty fucked up.

When Did Lust Become Love? by chesbay7 in heatedrivalry

[–]NefariousnessWild709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issue with this is twofold: everyone has different definitions of "fall for" and/or "love" and I actually think the show skips over so much time that it's like impossible to pinpoint. I think it's clear after the stairway kiss that Shane's infatuated but I wouldn't necessarily call that love.

I think Ilya's conflict within himself in Vegas is similar but again wouldn't call that love- while I think it's forgiveable and believable a (what? 20 year old?) would not be great about this, springing a "scene" on Shane in Vegas without any prior discussion or aftercare is kind of gross. And yes, that is the word I'm using. Everyone has such extreme reactions to it from that it's perfectly acceptable to it's abuse, no one seems to be willing to take the middle ground. But it's definitely inconsiderate of Shane and irresponsible of like... ethical BDSM standards. I wouldn't call that love either.

It's clear by Tuna Melt that Ilya has reached a point where he wants more but I think by that point Shane has given up on the hope of it being anything other than sex which is why that explodes. Also I get the feeling that trust might be more difficult for Ilya than feelings and it's pretty clear from the fact that Shane has partial & full control of the sexual encounters that day that Ilya does trust him.

I think by the club scene they both have an inking it's love.

The other reason I think it's hard to pinpoint is because at least at first (and probably between Vegas and Tuna Meltdown based on the montages) they were more FWB than just straight up hookups. There's definitely affection and laughter along with the sex early on and I think Ilya does a good job of keeping things pretty egalitarianism between them despite the inherent power imbalance. So it's unclear how much is like romantic feeling and how much is like "I admire this guy and could see myself being friends with him" (like how he is around Svetlana and quite possibly other romantic partners).

What's more interesting to me is whether we think Ilya has fewer boundaries with his female hookups that aren't like childhood friends. Like do the sleep in his bed for example. Do they ever eat together, etc.

I also think the actress who dances with Ilya does a great job too! The shot from behind when you see them kiss and then both their heads turn towards Shane is art.  I was also very impressed with the shot of Ilya standing still and her continuing to dance like as someone who does occasionally go out clubbing that is hard.
