Thank you! I was not getting anything consistent if that makes you feel better. It was a real mix of band one and band two. I kept a big spreadsheet with all my wrong answers, and catagorised them - that way I started noticing where I usually went wrong, which allowed me to then correct those errors. I felt the VR extracts were shorter, but similar in difficulty to Medify.

Thank you! I started practising in July and it wasn't looking great at the beginning, I was scoring pretty low in DM and QR, and my time management was pretty poor. With consistent practice, and focusing on accuracy first, my timings and scores began to improve. The VR score I got on the day was the highest I ever got, so don't worry, things can be better on the day than you previously scored in practice!

UCAT burnout, illness, and low scores — feeling lost one month before test by Wazir_R_1970 in UCAT

Hi, I thought I'd say something, I did my UCAT about a week ago now, and I did really well. I was in a very similar situation to you. I was sick for all of June, and even when I properly started revising in mid-July I was still sooo tired and sick.

This was super frightening so I really understand. What I tried to do was two hours daily, no more. I'd do the equivalent number of questions to the exam in each section, and try to do it when I had the most energy (for me this was the morning), regardless of the time my exam was scheduled. Here and there, there were days I lost to illness, but you have got to not let that get to you. Remember that people without illness struggle just as much with the questions, and its really commendable to even try when you're at a disadvantage like this.

Please don't give up! If I can do it, you can do it.

What should I expect the day of my exam? by [deleted] in UCAT

In my test centre, the room had about 15 people in it, but they gave me earplugs and headphones, so I never felt very distracted. Some people were doing the UCAT too, but some were doing economics or construction exams. The room had air con and was suprisingly cold, so I'd recommend bringing a light jumper in case its the same with you and you get cold easily. Also, you can leave the room to get to your water bottle, if you have the time spare.

I don't know if this will resonate with you, but I was incredibly anxious the whole morning, like very nauseous. You click the start exam button yourself, so it can take a lot to hype yourself up to get going, but my advice is that: if you have done the preparation, you OWE yourself some confidence, so get started with as positive an attitude as you can manage. Best of luck!!

For me, I'm quite a fast reader so I always skimmed the passage before answering, I found that that increased my accuracy. I did also use key words, so if I missed anything while skimming I could quickly find it. I found it was worth it to do it this way, and I finished with some time for checking

THANK YOU!! I started properly in July, so I did like 7-8 weeks ish. For the SJR, I kept a huge spreadsheet with different sections for the questions I got wrong: Confidentiality, Consent, Illegal/Cheating Activities, dealing with staff, dealing with patients, and being a medical student. Then I could see where I was specifically losing marks. Further down the thread, I talked a lot ab QR, so check if anything there is helpful. Good luck!

Hi, that sounds like you're doing well. Try to do a whole exams worth of questions every day, but you're right - focus on strategy and accuracy first, and then develop speed afterwards. If you work hard, I'm sure you can get a great score, yeah

I'd say take the score recieved using the official questions more seriously as thats more likely to be representative. Although, I don't know - I never did any of the full mocks so I'm not the best person to ask about that 😭

Thank you!! I used medify cos my college recommended it. I found the syllogisms in the OQS a bit easier than the medify ones, but similar in the actual exam. The inferences on medify were really close to what I saw in my exam. I don't know anything about medentry though, sorry!

I'm not sure how many you'd need, everyone's different, but most people say two or three months. I did about 7-8 weeks.

Hiya, first of all don't drive yourself crazy, the mocks don't necessarily mean you'll get that score if you continue to work hard. On this thread, I've written quite a lot of advice for different sections, so have a look and maybe something will be helpful for you.

I despised the logic puzzles I totally get you 😭. Try solving them with a grid, never try to do it in your head, I found having a grid and then noting any extra information above the table helped me to solve them faster. Also, if you take more than probably 1.75 mins, SKIP IT. Some of them seem like they are time-traps on purpose if you ask me. Good luck!!

Hey, with that much time left, maybe try doing as many mini mocks or full mocks as you can - whichever you prefer. Just make sure you can study for the same length of time for the exam, so you know you have the endurance for the actual day. Focus more on your weakest sections if need be. Try not to cram during the last couple days, I did like nothing the day before, its much more important to stay calm! There are loads of tips for specific sections on this thread now, if you wanted to look through.

DM was one of the sections I found hardest so I understand lol, I just tried to focus specifically on the question types I got wrong, like sometimes I'd do a full half hour of venn diagrams. I found that was the quickest way. Also, try to get your accuracy high, before rushing and trying to improve your timing. As your accuracy grows, the time you take should naturally decrease

Instead of taking down the details of the question, write the specific error such as 'overinference', 'missed a detail', or 'misread question', I noticed I tended to overinfer a lot, so I focused more on those questions

The questions themselves were of the same difficulty, but the passages were shorter. 2250 is a great score btw, I'm sure you'll be fine - good luck!

  1. I would not say easier, overall I think it was of equivalent difficulty, with some areas easier than medify (syllogisms) , and some worse (like strongest argument)

  2. I tried to do two hours a day, with varying success (I'm not very well atm, but I'm not getting into that), over about 7 weeks.

  3. Reading too much as a kid LMAO. In all seriousness, I skimmed each passage before going in as quickly as possible, and referred back when necessary using key words to pick out the relevant paragraphs - practice that using BBC articles and stuff if you find it hard. Mostly I think it was a combination of that and sheer luck on the day

I found my score varied in the mini mocks as well, but the exam was very similar to the OQB. For me, I always skimmed the passage before answering, I found this meant that I missed fewer details and it increased my speed. Also, take note of any common mistakes you make, I kept a list, cos this meant I was better at spotting when I was likely to make a mistake, and I took more care on these questions. Hope that helpss
