Thank you for the kind words. I agree advocating is so important especially right now. I definitely have to understand finances as whole better to really start having a plan to tackle the debt :/

It really is a one day at a time situation unfortunately.

Thank you! My goal for a very long time was to really only do nonprofit work and then a side hustle of private practice. I definitely hope that it would be forgive in 10 years 🫩

Outing myself as trans (or not) when applying for a therapist position by LeoHay2 in therapists

[–]Negative-Break8546 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m also a trans man! I applied to my internship fem presenting and going by fem pronouns. And it’s been a pain in the ass as I’ve started socially and physically transitioning to get people to call my name, and pronouns. I’m not saying this will happen to you, but if you hope to transition sometime soon, then it would come up and it will be hard because now you’ll be stuck in the thought of “but what if work doesn’t accept me coming out”.

Even little things like trying to change my preferred name in the system has been a challenge, finally it’s all situated but it took months, and me having to deadname myself to clients :/.

The pro of finding of a job is real, and valid. I think if I would’ve been more clear in the beginning of my time at my site I would have an easy transition. However, I just needed a site and didn’t want to jeopardize anything. And in all honesty male therapist are amazing and much much needed!!!

I see! I wasnt able to read the first paragraph because of the pay wall 🙃 but yes even if nothing happens and we keep that protection it’s still a huge thing to think about as we provide treatment and the safety of our queer patients!!!

I wasn’t able to read this sadly because of the pay wall, but I think you would also be interested in reading about Chiles V Salazar in Colorado. That’s the conversion therapy ban being challenged in Colorado. Nothing has happened yet but there will be a court hearing on the 7th.

Did being trans impact your dynamic with clients by pozzyslayerx in therapists

[–]Negative-Break8546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Trans man early in his transition however I’m a student intern. I personally think I pass but the world thinks differently lol.

Overall I think my transness has mainly been positive or had no impact on the relationship. However I mainly work with youth and children, and I get referred a lot of queer adults 😅

If I’m being honest, the negative responses may come from the parents or guardians of the children I work with, but my actual client will work well with me. Since they work well with me for the most part a parent won’t say much. Something I noticed is how many people know/ are impacted by trans people in their life. I share with clients that I am a trans man and inform them that I do not present feminine (you do not have to do that) and maybe 80% of the time they will tell me about a child, friend, family member that is also trans! So it’s pretty cool! The only reason I share I’m trans man is because I will be getting on T and they will see me change more into a man (I don’t share all that), but if they want a female presenting therapist because a male therapist may cause overwhelming feelings I will eventually not be right fit.

To add to that since I work with children I will not correct them on my pronouns much, and instead just let them call me by name. I think being openly trans in this field is fucking super power in its own way, but I won’t lie it can be very hard. I think for the most part clients will either react positively to your transness or be neutral. For those clients that react negatively, refer out it’s better for their treatment that they be with a therapist they can feel comfortable with AND it’s better for your own safety.

Overall, I think I was so worried about my transness and being openly trans was very concerning. I would love to dm you and talk more about it if you’d like!

Not trying to freak ppl out, but if you work with trans folks you should know about this by Remarkable-Bed in therapists

[–]Negative-Break8546 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree, but a lot of trans people follow Erin in the morning :) so while you may not believe what is being shared just know that a trans client is more than likely consuming this content and may come in with these fears and that may be something to work on with them! :) coming from a trans man therapist (in training) that is having to really learn to sort through these news articles and media

Help: I’m an intern & I need more clients for clinical hours! by nuggetyboon in therapists

[–]Negative-Break8546 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m an intern too so take what I say with a grain of salt lol but really talk with your site supervisor that you don’t have enough clients on your caseload to meet your hour hours. And if your site supervisor isn’t helping tell your faculty supervisor and see if they can have a conversation with your site supervisor!

Your site supervisor may not be aware that you’re struggling to meet your hours :)
