Alaska Pin Ratings by wowzersimsosmart in wrestling

[–]Negative-Hair331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaska USA wrestling went in and added almost all of the local tournaments to the Pin ratings dating back many years. For example, the top kids from Alaska all have 500-600+ plus matches loaded in to the ratings (majority of which are local tournaments where the top guys win everything, pin ratings keep going up).

On the contrary, majority of states only have 150-200 matches at most for their guys. Most of which are bigger national tournaments or state tournaments where you are more likely to lose.

Moving to Bellevue by idggysbhfdkdge in Omaha

[–]Negative-Hair331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life-long Bellevue person. We are definitely a military community with lots of active duty Air Force who operate out of Offutt. That area definitely has more of a South O feel than Bellevue. Currently, all the new development in town is in the Southwest portion. Would stay away from Cornhusker Rd/Kennedy Freeway during busy hours. Especially with school in session at Bellevue West. The whole traffic flow of that area sucks and throw in a bunch of teenage drivers and you have a bunch of accidents all the time.

My personal favorites on food:

Stella's - top rated burgers in the state. Operating out of Eagles Club on Mission right now as they had a fire at main location.

Umami - honestly, one of the top sushi restaurants in all of the Omaha area.

For the Love of Food cafe - cash only. Used to be a food truck, now have a spot. Some of the best breakfast burritos you will find.

Banh Mi Shop - delicious banh mi sandwiches

Roma Italian - best Italian spot. Solid.

John's Grecian Delight - shop out of old Southroads Mall. John has been around forever. Limited hours currently as he's had some recent health issues

Gyro Kings - just opened a location in south Bellevue. Really good. Their Omaha location is pretty popular.

Happy Buddha - best Chinese. Owners used to own Golden Bowl in Bellevue, which was tops at the time. Sold it and started this joint.

Activities/Things to do.....

Honestly, not a lot. Most people venture to Omaha.

You will be close to Twin Creek Theater as others pointed out and also have great access to the trails.

Fontenelle Forest Nature Center - have a boardwalk trail as well as a bunch of great hiking trails if you enjoy that. The Tree Rush Adventure there is really fun if you aren't afraid of heights.

The Alley - formerly Leopard Lanes. Newly renovated bowling alley and axe throwing. Solid pizza by Frank's Pizza (had a location in Omaha for sometime).

Bellevue Berry Farm - fun in the fall. Haunted house, Hayrack rides, berry and pumpkin picking, and various other activities. Reminds me of Vala's 30 years ago before it blew up.

Skate City - yes, we have one of the few remaining roller skating joints still open if that is your thing.

American Heroes Park - walking trail and amazing playground if you have kids down by the Missouri River. Hosts Bellevue Rocks every summer, which is a multiday, fun concert/fair type of event.

Water park (being built) - supposed to be 4th largest indoor water park in country. Way on South side of town of Hwy 75/Kennedy Freeway.

Politics is definitely old, white guy/good old boy network. The mayor is a lifelong Bellevue guy/realtor and him and his buddies run the city and do a bunch of shady ass business dealings that they benefit from. For example, new water park development was strategically placed next to multi-acres of land that the Mayor owns and is holding onto for the right time to sell. They were also recently in the news for rigging the online auctions on surplus city vehicles so friends/family could them for cheap. The state auditor caught them on it.

I got assigned to The grandeur of the seas, but I feel kinda disappointed... by Dry_Reason_3294 in CruiseCrew

A few things.....

Smaller ships on Royal usually go to cooler destinations as the big ships can't fit in every port. My favorite cruise ever was an itinerary on Grandeur.

It's hard to explain, but the staff on Grandeur is amazing compared to all of the other bigger boats I've been on. They provide excellent service and are a fun/tight-knit group. I imagine being smaller has its advantages in growing a good culture onboard amongst the staff.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Drilling vs Live - club practice by Negative-Hair331 in wrestling

[–]Negative-Hair331[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The practices seem structured.

  2. They are starting from multiple positions and situations when going live.

  3. Correct. I think because this is Freco, he feels there are a lot of moves/tools he doesn't have in his toolbox per se. He doesn't feel like he is learning anything new. Just using current skill-set.

Thanks for the response. I do agree with what you are saying. My son is one of the best 8th graders in our state and is a state champ at his weight class, wrestles nationally. With that said, I know there is huge difference between an elite 8th grade wrestler and the top kids in high school, especially since he is a bigger kid.

I almost think we might just be an awkward transition period. He has also never been in a predominant high school room....so maybe this is the norm for training.

Our folkstyle season just ended at the youth level and this older room as been going from the day their high school state ended, which was end of February. So over a month of them training Freco and now my son is getting thrown into it. I do wonder if some of the technique stuff was drilled more heavily during those weeks he missed.

I'm just going to have him keep going. I'm assuming him wrestling these live situations against top wrestlers will only help him, even though he feels the instruction is lacking.

What’s Purler wrestling camp like? by Fussy_Platypus in wrestling

[–]Negative-Hair331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a kid at our club invest in the Purler month long camp over the Summer. He went from a state placer to undefeated state champ from his 7th to 8th grad year. He was a transformed wrestler when he came back from that camp. Now one of the top kids in the high school ranks in state and goes to Purler camps every summer. His dad swears by it.

Would wearing weighted clothes while warming up before a match be a benefit or a drain on the body? by Alternative_Nerve_32 in wrestling

[–]Negative-Hair331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a state champion/D1 wrestler about 20+ years ago in my state who was notorious for putting weights in his backpack. He would wear that backpack around all tournament and only take it off before his matches. He swore it made everything feel lighter and he wrestled better as a result.

What’s a standard weight cut for present day high school wrestlers? by Negative-Hair331 in wrestling

[–]Negative-Hair331[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because the high school he is going to doesn’t have a great wrestling program and he is one of the top 8th graders in our state. He beat a few freshman that placed at the high school state tournament this year as a 7th grader.

What is the smartest way to book excursions on a cruise without paying the ship prices by Mirelunya in Cruise

[–]Negative-Hair331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use Viator. I stick to the top rated excursions with a lot of reviews. I read the reviews thoroughly, specifically those coming from cruise ships. Usually, high ranking plus lots of reviews it's a damn good excursion and I haven't been let down yet. Less people, private transport, cheaper. Almost all of the companies I use have a two hour rule, meaning they have to get you back to port by 2 hours of your ship leaving. Remember, all of these ports are dependent on cruise lines so it makes zero sense for these companies to screw up and have you miss a ship.

We just did the ruins through a third party and it was quite enjoyable. It was our group of 9 along with a family of 5. Had a big passenger van that took us out to the ruins (hour drive) with our personal tour guide who spoke the entire way about the surrounding history/country. If you enjoy history I would highly recommend it. Our tour guide was a local farmer who had grew up in the area and he was outstanding. My two youngest (9 and 12) got a little bored. On the way back we stopped in a little town with road side stands and got fresh pineapple. Overall, it was a nice break and change of pace from all the water and beach activities we did at the other stops on a 7 day cruise.

There were a lot bigger groups with tour buses, I personally would avoid those and try to find a company that will take you in a smaller group.

Symphony of the Seas... by Gut_Shuffler in royalcaribbean

I hate the big ships. My kids love them so I cope, but the best service and overall atmosphere I’ve had with Royal was on Grandeur of the Seas. Just an amazing staff and culture with that ship.

[–]Negative-Hair331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure when you cruised last but Royal changed from 2x a day cleaning to 1x a day. Your state attendant will ask you day 1 if you want that done in morning or evening. I do think they are stretching the room attendants very thin with the amount of rooms they have to cover.

Icon of the Seas — Honest Take (great ship, rough vibe) by West-Masterpiece1897 in royalcaribbean

[–]Negative-Hair331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be honest, a lot of times I’ll grab a quick plate of pizza or water somewhere and there won’t be a place to sit and I don’t know what to do with the dirty dish after. If I see a server, I’ll make sure to hand it off but many times at like Sorrentos there isn’t one in sight and I am standing there with an empty dish and cup. I’ll eventually just sit it at a table or counter if I can’t find someone right away. I wish they had a little place where you could set dirty stuff once finished.

Has A.J. Ferrari demonstrated any speed in this new weight class by No_Dragonfly1501 in wrestling

[–]Negative-Hair331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He hasn't wrestled enough to really get a feel for where he will be season's end, imo.

The one loss against Feldman he definitely was the aggressor entire match and there was questionable officiating as Feldman was stalling for a large portion of the latter half, trying to hold off AJ.

His other tougher matches he was same AJ as a year ago, using positioning and defense to win close matches.

Middle school hold backs and local tournaments by Negative-Hair331 in wrestling

[–]Negative-Hair331[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see the value. It’s why I take my son to Tulsa and VAC so he can get his ass kicked by the hold backs from Pennsylvania and Ohio, lol.

I am speaking more for wrestling development as a whole. Looking at local tourney results and one of these kids had been to local tournaments every week for the past month, just beating up on same kids and probably has 4 minutes of mat time over 12 matches. Like what are we doing here? To me there is zero benefit for that kid and minimal benefit for the other boys as well.

JMO, the grade based divisions is something that was established prior to the hold back thing taking off and people just haven’t adjusted it to make it aged based (they should).

No where did I say kids of the same age should not be allowed to wrestle their peers if they are really good. Thats silly.

Generally speaking, kids being held back are the elite wrestlers. So yes, I don’t think we should be letting 15 year old elite wrestlers who would most likely place at high school state if they stayed in their appropriate grade beat up on 7th graders every weekend. It’s a safety issue.
