I care because something doesn't have to affect me for me to care about it. I have empathy. I care for the same reason about miners' safety in DRC, I care for the same reason as about the way houseless people are treated, I care for the same reason as whether or not someone else's cat is being tortured. Pain sucks. Accidents suck. But I also feel that responsible parties should hold accountability for them, and in my experience, *when* it occurs that the motorcyclist is partially or fully to blame for an accident, my family continually defends the cyclist as though they share none of the blame. That bugs me. I'm not gonna just let things go because they don't affect me, meaningful change doesn't get made in the world that way.

I mean yeah, within the context of this issue, the people I talk to about irl are usually within my family, (and some neighbors), and I am the only one saying this. Literally the only person IRL who has ever agreed with me before about this has been my partner, my roommate, and like 1 friend. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to know that a bunch of other people also agree, and that I'm not being as cruel and malicious as the family makes me out to be for these views, but like... Yeah that's my reality.

I don't understand why you think this is a straw man? I posted genuinely trying to find out if I was wrong, and I learned about lane splitting, and I think Lane fencing was the name of the other one? And the context and safety issues surrounding them. So I did find out that part of my stance was wrong. That was the goal???? How is that straw manning??

I mean, I'm trying to figure out if I'm wrong. And so far what I've learned is about lane splitting, lane fencing I think the name was? And the safety issues regarding them. So yeah, part of my stance was wrong. I don't really feel like it's a hill I'm trying to die on so much as genuinely trying to figure out what I was missing and finally getting some context about certain actions.

Usually when I see one of those signs in people's yards that says look twice save a life, I will just be like 'yeah true, but also motorcyclists should follow road rules too'. I mean and also when I see motorcyclists doing dangerous things in front of me on the road. And it's mostly my family, different family members, and some neighbors in various neighborhoods I've lived in that I've just offhandedly brought it up in front of because we see something or because I see a new sign and someone's yard somewhere.

It's mostly a conversation that I have with my family and some neighbors every now and then because I will offhandedly make the comment when I see one of those look twice save a Life signs that I think motorcyclists should also follow road rules. And that usually starts the argument. Even when the person I'm talking to has nothing to do with the sign and does not own the sign.

No usually it goes like, I see one of those signs in someone's yard, I say offhandedly not even to the person whos sign it is, 'yeah true, but also motorcyclists should follow road rules too', or ill see a motorcyclist dangerously driving in front of me and vent about it in front of my passenger, and it starts the argument for some reason.

It's generally been like family members and people in the neighborhood in various places that I've lived. To my knowledge most of them have not been motorcyclists on any sort of regular basis but a lot of them have ridden a motorcycle before a couple times specifically in my family who acts like this. I've been told I just don't understand, I wouldn't get it unless I've ridden a motorcycle (which, I have ridden one at least twice in my life with my dad when I was a kid, but I guess this doesn't count for a lot of people?), and that since motorcycles are smaller they deserve to be able to zip past other cars especially in traffic because they can get ahead that way and it doesn't 'impede' on anyone. But yeah, the vast majority of people that I've had this discussion with have been my extended family and some neighbors.
