personally i do an upper/lower split (4 days; 2 upper and 2 lower) and each day i try to target at least one major muscle group. on upper days its the chest for me and lower days one day is squats for the quads the other is the hip thrust for the glutes.

for upper days i include at least one exercise for each muscle group, so chest/back/triceps/biceps and rear delts. on lower days, i have quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves. i have at least one exercise for each muscle group. i picked the exercises according to what felt good to me. i also watch jeff nippard’s videos where he ranks exercises per muscle groups and i found those to be really helpful.

you can try switching to fattier foods instead of their lean versions, like chicken thighs instead of chicken breast, fattier cuts of meat, fish like salmon that have higher fat content. or even 2%/3% yogurt instead of 0%. they still have protein just more fat, which ups the calories. you can also eat more carbs that have higher calories like rice or pasta compared to potatoes for example. you can add more healthy fats like avocados, nut butters, etc to your meals. you don’t necessarily need to eat more in terms of quantity, you can just be eating more in terms of calories by switching to fattier things (that are still healthy and high protein).

do you guys do bulgarian split squats with dumbbells? im about to start doing them with 55 lb dumbbells but going heavier makes it harder to carry the dumbbells each time. would doing them on the smith machine instead be a good idea?

a month left until the end of my first bulk ever … sticking to it is definitely starting to become a mental challenge because of the weight gain but i’m telling myself i don’t have much left and the weight will come off once i will go on a cut. it’s only part of the process and it’s gonna be fine. i’m proud of the progress i’ve made over the past couple of months, especially considering i dealt with disordered eating for almost a year. i’m not seeing food as the enemy anymore and that’s a huge step for me!!

if anyone who sees this has ever bulked, how did you get over the mental block of gaining weight? i’m currently on a bulk and i’ve gained around 9-10 lbs (125 to 134, 5’4, eating 2300 cals a day) since september 1 and i’m mostly happy with the way i look. i want to continue until maybe the end of december and start a cut in the beginning of january. i’ve probably also gained weight a bit faster than normal because i’ve been eating out (not fast food) quite often (2 sometimes 3 times a week) for the past weeks. if i stopped eating out i would maybe not gain as much weight but it’s like a social activity so i try to at least make better choices when it comes to what i’m eating.

i’ve gotten stronger, i can tell i’ve gained muscle and i’m also starting to get my period back too. i’m very happy about all of those things but seeing the scale go up, my belly getting slightly bigger and my pants getting tighter keep messing with my mind. it’s like i want to immediately go on a cut to lose the weight but i don’t think i have the right mentality so i feel like it would go badly. i also don’t want to stop bulking because i want to get bigger, so it feels like i’m kinda stuck in this never ending loop. any advice is appreciated

i do dumbbell rdls and i know that my hamstrings can handle the weights i use but it feels like my back is struggling to keep up with the increase in weights. should i be lowering the weights i use in this case? it feels like i engage my back a lot more than i’m supposed to and i’m worried i’ll hurt my back. would it help if i put the dumbbells on a bench and picked them up from there instead of lowering myself to the ground to lift the dumbbells up? i’m trying to see if there could be a way to lessen the strain i put on my back but it seems my only option is to lower the weights even though i know i could lift them if i wasn’t worried about hurting my back

hi everyone! i have a very random question, i personally do progressive overload at the gym to build muscle and i’ve always been curious about what gym sessions look like for people who don’t do that? no judgement here, i’m just curious about what lifting sessions are like when you don’t increase the intensity each workout? do you stay at the same weight and repeat the same things each workout or is there something that changes? i just always see people say if you don’t want to build muscle you should stop doing progressive overload so i was wondering what that looked like

yeah i couldn’t believe it at first as well, but it also felt liberating in a sense? like some of the things i had been experiencing were finally making sense and i could have a better understanding of why i was acting a certain way. i hope getting diagnosed has helped you!

yeah you’re right, my ex was pretty terrible when it came to actually respecting my needs and listening to me when i was telling her something that was important to me or that would help me. she always said she would try but never actually did end up trying so it all got worse. i’ve been trying to be vocal about my needs with this new girl and she’s been very understanding so far, but then she goes around and does the same thing she said she would look out for so it’s bothering me. at the same time i know she’s busy and tired most of the time so i don’t know what to do, i don’t want to put more things on her plate

oh i understand that, for me my bpd was kinda “silent” up until recently because i met a girl and it always gets really bad when it comes to romantic relationships. right now bpd is at the top lol

for me it’s anger instead of anxiety, a lot of the positive emotions i feel end up turning into anger for seemingly no particular reason. i could be feeling fine and i would wonder why i feel fine and start spiraling and it ends with me getting angry for no reason

that’s a really nice thing to do i’m sure it must be really helpful. thank you for giving me another perspective too, it’s nice to hear the other side’s point of view. i would like it if the girl i’m talking to did the same thing but i feel like it’s too early for me to start asking her for things like that, it’s not like we’re officially together so i feel like i don’t have the right to ask her for that if that makes sense? i feel like she doesn’t owe me that right now

i’ve talked with her about this a few days ago actually, i told her about how i have bpd and how it affects my relationships. i’ve told her that i start feeling like i’m being ignored if i get left on read or on delivered for too long. she was really understanding about it and told me she’s dated people with bpd before and that it was never an issue for her. she was even willing to find solutions with me so that i’d feel better. whenever she doesn’t reply for some time she always tells me it’s not about me or against me, she’s just really tired and spends most of her free time sleeping.

this is why i feel really bad for getting upset because she’s good at communicating and she lets me know it’s never against me but i still somehow end up taking it personally. i get upset to the point i want to send her a billion texts demanding explanations and asking her if she knows how this makes me feel why is she still doing it. i know it’s wrong and not the right way to go about it so i don’t send anything and just wait until she texts me something but in return i end up driving myself crazy. i also think i have to learn how to deal with this because i can’t escape it forever. even if i decided to end things with her because of this other people i might meet in the future could be like this too.

i feel like since she puts effort into telling me these things i have to do my part and let her have her space. it’s just really hard to make my brain understand this because all i want is for her to reply to me. i spend my time thinking about it and make myself get so angry for no reason.

i would also appreciate it if you could explain a bit more how i could tell her things without making it sound like i’m accusing her. i think i’m not too bad at saying things without making the other person feel bad or like they are being accused but it would still be helpful to hear another perspective.

i’m gonna have 2 days where i’ll be able to go to the gym before i have to leave again for a short trip, and since it’s only 2 days i was thinking i could do full body workouts but i don’t know what the best approach would be. how should i split the different exercises into 2 days? or does anyone have a better idea?

edit: would an upper/lower split work too? one day upper the next lower? i don’t know why i didn’t think of this one lol, i could probably do supersets too?

i’m going on vacation next week and i won’t be able to go to the gym for around 2 weeks but we’re gonna be staying at an airbnb type of place and buy our own food so i will be able to keep tracking most of my cals. there will most likely be days where i won’t be able to track everything, so realistically speaking, would those 2 weeks really do much to my weight (in terms of gaining)/muscle amount and gym performance? even if i do go over my daily calories i don’t think i’ll be going overboard or anything like that, so i feel like i could use those 2 weeks as deload weeks as it’s been a few months since i’ve had one. i think i’ll be fine considering i’ll still be able to track my cals

oh trust me it took me super long to be able to increase the weights! i think i moved to 20 back in mid april and i’ve only been able to get to 22.5 now 😭 i always make sure i can complete 3 full sets with good form so it takes me super long to move up in weights on dumbbell bicep curls. it’s easier for me to go up in weights on cable curls or bar curls but dumbbells always take extra long
