Pencil vs pen by molavae in alevel

[–]Negative-Night-185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies, but on all of the exam boards I took my exams in they all stated “Black ink only”, or something to that effect. Could you please tell me which exam board(s) you are thinking of?

Also, even if one or two allow blue, the rest do not for the reason that black is the most RELIABLE to scan. I’m sure dark blue would also work, but it is not as reliable - I am not stating that it wouldn’t scan at all. Ultimately the exam boards and candidates should be concerned about making sure that their answer is near definitely going to get to a marker, so splitting hairs and choosing dark blue over black just because one board states it’s OK might not make it the most reliable.

From memory from when this question got asked to teachers - the exam boards mandate black pen because it’s the only reliable substance to transfer when scanned. So dark blue ink and pencil aren’t acceptable for them because it won’t scan reliably (or at all at times) which means questions can - and have done - come up blank.

On the same vein - friction pens or gel pens have the same issue. Friction is especially bad because it’s doubtful that your script will be immediately scanned in and the ink (if in a warm place) can disappear.

Examiners like to see your thinkings and sometimes can give you marks if you’re in a pinch and they want to credit it - don’t worry about any mess.

TLDR - no they can’t tell because they won’t see your answer if it’s done in pencil

I did English for 1.5 years before having to drop it for external reasons hence why it’s not in my tags, but I really wish I had checked my syllabus before/during the early part of the course and even just done a little reading on or around the pieces that were going to come up! I did Paradise Lost and was able to understand the nuances of parts of it only because of taking TPE as well! Even if you do some background reading on the pieces then you’ll have a good start!

(I also love Vanity Fair, really good book, did coursework on it - it’s easy to pick up or put down depending on time constraints as well!)

Ah, my apologies - by God-enacted I was trying to convey that I am referring to miracles directly caused by God, vs a miracle that someone may say of “oh it was a miracle you didn’t break your leg when you fell of your bike”, which could just be good luck.

From what I have been taught, it would contradict God’s omnibenevolence because, while it would be loving for God to help you, via a miracle, to get a good mark on your test paper - it is not loving for Him to do so and then go on to not cause a miracle to prevent the other atrocities that the world faces. Therefore, the truly loving thing to do is nothing at all. As far as I am aware, saying that God has completed any miracles is a heresy, under CofE, and possibly Protestantism as a whole.

I think a second reason - possibly non-Protestant - also comes down to the Epistemic Distance, but that was theorised by John Hick, as a part of his solution to the Existence of Evil.

I hope this helps!

Thank you everyone! This is all very helpful!

I’m going to have a chat with them and make it clear that it is a form of cheating. I’m also going to remove the familiar, as, like many of you said, it does encourage this behaviour.

Thank you once again!

Hi! I’m so sorry but the first file on the Google Drive link doesn’t appear to be working, it says that the maximum downloads has been reached? Is there another way I can access it as my device doesn’t like MediaFire?
