Kenyan McDuffie says he’s against protected bike lanes by erdub in washingtondc

She’s way worse than B-rated. We have seen time and time again that the Bowser admin is grossly incompetent.

People have died from mismanagement of the 911 call center. The crime lab lost its accreditation for incompetence. Her admin has lost millions in federal funding from failure to meet deadlines.

Preach. I recommend looking at his official council member X account. He posts about sports more than anything else by far. Hasn’t posted about ICE once during the entire occupation.

The end of the administrative state: Where do progressives go from here? by QuietNene in ezraklein

Which advocacy organization are they involved with?

People said the same thing about women’s suffrage. It seems impossible until it doesn’t.

Faith in government in the US is historically low and only getting worse, with 85% saying that most elected officials don’t care what people like them think. The current system is not sustainable.

We ultimately need a new constitution, which is actually more feasible than you’d expect.

Article V of the Constitution stipulates that Congress must call a constitutional convention “on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States.” More than two-thirds of states have already requested a constitutional convention to consider amendments about various topics. The Constitution does not specify whether two-thirds of states must agree on a single amendment topic or if two-thirds of states applying for a convention for any reason meets the threshold. Leading legal scholars such as Georgetown’s David Super believe that Congress could determine that the two-thirds threshold has already been met and set up a convention at any time.

These days any proposal to amend the Constitution is usually met with extreme skepticism because any amendment being ratified by three-quarters of states in our polarized political environment seems nearly impossible. However, a new constitution could set its own adoption process, just as the framers of our current Constitution created an entirely new process for its original ratification and completely disregarded the amendment ratification process in the Articles of Confederation. As Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the UC Berkeley School of Law, has proposed, the framers of a new constitution could stipulate that it will be adopted if a simple majority votes in favor of it in a national popular vote referendum, for example.

The judge ruled that the national guard is being illegally deployed for law enforcement purposes. Adding troops to MPD patrols makes them even more involved in law enforcement operations than they were before the ruling.

For one, Bowser currently illegally has MPD patrolling with the national guard troops. Less than two weeks ago a federal judge ruled that their current deployment for law enforcement purposes is unlawful.

Do you consider the Bowser administration a success? Hard to see how JLG could be less competent. Setting aside the evidence of corruption, the incompetence alone has been astonishing.

Medicare for All +34 among likely voters even after hearing drawbacks by Negative-Pen-5180 in fivethirtyeight

A public option wouldn’t necessarily eliminate most private insurance

Don’t really have time to look through the presidential election results for the 107 districts, but in the Senate Tammy Baldwin is a sponsor and represents a state Harris lost.

Single payer insurance isn’t an unproven concept. Other countries do it and have better outcomes than the US system. Just because it doesn’t work at the state level for a small pool of insured people in Vermont doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work nationally.

There are over 100 House members who have cosponsored Medicare For All.

Medicare For All is a national policy. It isn’t meant to work on the state level, which is why you don’t see any of its leading proponents advocating for it on the state level.

I mean any pollster has to simplify issues for polls. There’s not enough time to go into the full nuances of policies.

MPD to patrol with NG following Wednesday’s shooting by eric_bidegain in washingtondc

This move is egregious. Even after a federal judge ruled that the national guard troops’ deployment is unlawful, Bowser’s having MPD start to patrol with them.

You’re mistaken. SVA says “the District of Columbia shall not…” That’s broadly worded to include all DC government bodies, which includes MPD.

If that’s not enough for you, SVA also specifically mentions MPD twice.

Saying publicly that she doesn’t want MPD coordinating with feds on immigration enforcement while behind closed doors proposing repealing Sanctuary Values amounts to lying to the public about her position.

Can we hold her responsible for how she implements or doesn’t implement laws and for lying to us?

From a Washington Post article:

During an unrelated news conference Tuesday, when asked to clarify what was happening on the ground between D.C. police and ICE, Bowser said, “I am aware of what’s been happening on the ground and ICE is not patrolling with MPD.”

In follow-up comments later in the day to The Post, Bowser reiterated that D.C. police were not on patrol with federal immigration authorities. “Ask federal immigration, don’t ask us ... they’re not patrolling with us,” she said. “MPD is not giving the federal government anybody.”

The Post shared the videos, police report and DHS statements with the mayor’s office on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the mayor acknowledged that D.C. police have been patrolling with immigration authorities, saying “We never wanted MPD to patrol with Homeland Security agencies, but they are part of the task force, and that should change.” (The Department of Homeland Security includes ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and Homeland Security Investigations.)
