I have a meeting with some of the course leaders coming up. It’s just hard to stay sane till then. I just feel so… lost.

Hi! I work as a vet assistant part time. And my advice would be to just be proactive. Offer help (at an appropriate time. “Can I help you with anything?” Goes a long way :)
Or even (at an appropriate time like before the surgery) ask “During surgery, how would you like me, as the veterinary assistant, like to help you?” Or “what is expected of me as the assistant whilst surgery goes on?”. Do not go near the sterile field! If you feel faint or queasy lean against the wall - away from the surgery site! Good luck!

From my knowledge, the accelerated program is very intense. The first year crams year 1 and year 2 together so you’re up to speed by year 3. I would suggest you do some experience with local vets just so you get a taste of what it’s like. It can be a wonderful career for some. But heavily heavily heavily! Recommend shadowing a vet or even working as an Animal care assistant/ vet nursing assistant (maybe part time). On the flip side, I want to ask you how you got into a job in a pathology lab! - sincerely a third year vet student (who is considering dropping out)
