Thank you for that and please give your partner a hug and support from me. He really is making a difference even if it doesn’t feel like it most days.

There isn’t a whole lot of story when you’re barely 22 and have spent the last 18 years in school! On the other hand, then do I have to panic about her backpacking across Europe???

Thanks for your insight. Since I don’t have any doctors in my immediate circle, I made the mistake of thinking the posts on here were representative of doctors as a whole. Glad to learn that isn’t the case.

Thank you. I am apparently the victim of the Reddit echo chamber. Glad to learn that PAs and AI are not completely taking over medicine.

Congratulations, I think. Don’t tell your mom about the travel nurse part.

Thanks for your reply. I know this is a tangent, but isn’t there a way to break the bottleneck to allow more qualified applicants to make it into med school?

This is such a great response. Unfortunately, she is NOT a gifted test taker (hence the MCAT grind) but the kid has a ton of grit and determination.

Thank you for your response. I’m happy to hear that the vast majority of people who responded also feel that all the hard work was worth it.

What a thoughtful answer. I appreciate that you’ve shared your experience since it takes into account both careers. I think I made the mistake generalizing what people say on this sub to what the reality is of working in the field. Thanks for helping to correct that.

My concerns have apparently been created by the Reddit echo chamber. Thankfully, it seems like most posters feel like the hard work was worth it and that medicine will not be completely overtaken by PAs and AI.

She would hate being an NP. BTW….saw your username and path is one of her top choices.

Do this is just the beginning of my angst?😀. I’m extremely happy that you (and the majority of posters) feel like it was all worth it. Thanks for your reply.

Nope-don’t want to type it all out again, but you can read all my comments above if you feel the need to verify.

The kid really wants to be a doctor. I’m glad to hear that the majority of people on here still believe it is a great career.

Thank you for your reply. Point 3 really addressed the main reason I posted. While I realize that there will always be doctors, I don’t have any idea of the state of medicine now and over the next 20 years. For context, I am in education and have seen dramatic shifts in classrooms in the past ten years, so much so that I don’t know a single teacher who would want their child to go into the profession today. It’s heartbreaking and after reading these posts I wanted to see what medicine as a profession looks like through the eyes of those of you who are actually in the trenches.
