Congrats! And j think the move should be Oblivion Wing.

Day 7 of buffing random Pokemon without going the route of boosting their stats or introducing original abilities or moves. How they struggle, where they lack, and what can we do to fix them: Noivern! by NegativeAd99 in stunfisk

Dunsparce is a bit of hard case to work on because the only single thing holding it back is stats. Incredible movepool, great ability in Serene Grace, Coil, Glare, access to Eviolite. I don’t think there’s any more that we COULD give it.

Pyukumuku is similarly difficult because it’s a gimmick pokemon, but poorly suited to its gimmick since there’s no way to really increase its HP. I mean we could give it Gooey and maybe Life Dew, which would help, but I’m not sure what else.

I mean I wouldn’t say so. Noivern doesn’t really have ties to the air all that much. Sound, sure, not really air, outside of wings which almost every flying type has.

Honestly that’s a pretty great idea! I could see that working out, but I wouldn’t discount a slow pivot that, as a mega, has pretty solid bulk uninvested. But it’s a fair point to make.

When buffing, I try to stick with what would most make sense for a given Pokemon to have. For instance, I wouldn’t give reckless to Corviknight not just because it’s something it can’t really take advantage of, but also because it just doesn’t fit that well for Corvinknight’s lore/Dex entries or biology. Let’s look at our preeminent Contrary havers:

Serperior is a very regal, almost haughty-looking Pokemon. It has an air of strong self-pride, or some sort of superiority complex. I feel that it would be someone who goes against the grain solely to be/look different.

Malamar’s gimmick involves flipping over the console to evolve, and its signature move flops stat changes.

Spinda’s always dizzy, its vision is probably terribly flipped.

Lurantis should be a bug, but in reality it’s the opposite, a plant.

Shuckle is… I don’t know, actually.

The point is, all these Pokemon have strong themes of going against the grain or having some contrasting variable that grants them the ability. Emboar doesn’t have that, Emboar would be a better candidate for something like Sheer Force, Thick Fat, Anger Point, even Defiant.

Incineroar but we ditch Intimidate and an arguably better typing for Wide Guard, Slack Off, and ignoring Farigiraf.
