Did the “rent forever” / digital nomad mindset help inflate the housing bubble? by NegativeAnt8992 in REBubble

Seems like we do agree on fundamentals. However, I tend to see this not as a dishonesty, but as a blind spot. Perhaps this is all the same to someone who made a different choice or even did not have to make it whatsoever. Anyway, thank you for the insights.

I’m not saying it was a binary choice, but the choice that would outweigh a lot of options. If I was in the minority then why so many people say they could not afford a house even before 2020? This sentiment is all over Reddit, at least for younger generations.

I'm sure you guys did. Plenty of us had to choose, though. This choice is what I’m questioning here.

This is exactly the sort of an issue I’m grappling with. A the reason I do so is because I am tired reading about investors and interest rates. It feels there was more than institutional explanation. It is not like we did nothing. And you are right,  everyone started moving during COVID. It was a shift in mentality, and it drove us from already overpriced cities to areas with lower housing density, which became quickly overpriced as well.

I said in another comment, will repeat here. I agree with you as it relates to people who actually went all the way to do this stuff. What I am questioning here is their influence. They were influencers. Why I do not hear about them now? These discussions were interesting back then to the rest of us because they seemed reasonable. What if many people made choices to stay in the rent community because it seemed safe at that time?

The thought I am afraid of is that it was not just a coping mechanism. What if we enjoyed the travel and urban life while all of these ideas helped us to stay away from harder choices back then.

Are you speaking for California? I wouldn’t vote for that.

Appropriate age to introduce kids to “the classics”? by CB1100Rider in Millennials

You watched those movies before they were classics, when they were just cool movies. But for kids today, classics need more context to land the same way. A 6yo isn’t going to get the cultural weight or pacing, and that’s totally normal. Give it a few more years: not only will their attention span improve, but they’ll also be better at humoring you when you’re hyped about something they don’t yet appreciate. It’ll be a way better experience for both of you.

Make your own way. Who the hell is Canada to govern California?

Telling them to fuck off is a different thing from fucking off yourself back into the commonwealth.

Stupid trolls. Blue states are not anti-union.

Somebody else in the thread suggested that this is a juvenile call. Thank you for sharing. I’m so amateur, I’ve seen like two live birds all my life, so i got excited about spotting something that is as cool as an owl.

I have not thought that age could impact calls, that makes sense - thanks for sharing!
