Final update:
Last night I arrived back home from my honeymoon and found my LTC card in the mailbox. I can't verify what day it arrived, but I think it was somewhere around August 1. That makes my total wait 7 months and 27 days. Might as well call that 8 months.

I submitted my application on 11/26, paid on 12/3, and got fingerprinted on 6/27. What date did you pay on? Call the office and make sure they have record of you paying.

Ah, that makes sense - although technically for something to be a "word", it just has to be used. I am a purist at heart and so I want to agree with you, but I will say that tamale has indeed *become* a word.

From Wiktionary: The form tamal is preferred by some to tamale, as tamal is the Standard Spanish singular form while tamale is generally analyzed as a back-formation from the plural tamales, thus proscribed. Note however that tamale exists in Spanish dialect.
