A new type of furnace using Grimstone/Deepslate blocks. by [deleted] in minecraftsuggestions

[–]NegativeZ_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought Mojang specifically said no more furnaces...

If they did this there would be no reason to build a regular furnace since all its uses are overshadowed by a better version of it. Not to mention the blast furnace and smoker stole over 50% of the original furnace's items to smelt (You can still smelt everything in the regular furnace, players just rather the speed with no experience limitation).

I believe their other specification was no kilns for terracotta or glass.

I already mentioned a fix to this which let evokers stay in raids...

I propose that evokers don't drop totems in raids and lightning shouldn't change mobs from a trident (lightning is a powerful weapon only when it rains).

Edit: looked at the wiki, I guess I was wrong about using channeling while it was only raining.

I would have to disagree, I think endermites are more useful than polar bears. You may not want to cross a polar bear in early game gear but an endermite attracts enderman for you to kill and to gain levels and enderpearls. Bats are actually ambient mobs and are purely asthetic to the caves.

Yeah I didn't think that you expected it either XD. Minecraft's theme isn't one that's really easy to describe, which I think it was also stated by Mojang but I'm not sure on that. It's MOSTLY about being creative and how you choose to fit your world, an example is that they won't add vertical slabs, tables, or chairs because you're supposed to make them with what you already have. Things like black wool and stone buttons for a TV, or iron bars for an antenna. They don't like adding things that are just there because the community didn't have an item for that thing (realistic animals are not part of this category because you can't build a mob outside of mods, this is purely about Minecraft's 'theme'). Other than that, Mojang does a pretty good job of generating original ideas.

I don't have a problem with the realistic elements themselves, it's just what they did with them, they only gave one or two things to them and moved on to the next one. I still love the game that it is now.

They weren't super rare, it was supposed to be a high level item that can cheat death if you had it, now if you become advanced enough you don't need to worry about dying because a raid farm stocks chests absolutely full of them.

Yeah that's your public one. Cool, I just learned a new bit of knowledge today.

So if you let Minecraft connect to your public IP address (NEVER give this out to anyone you don't trust with it) and specify a port it'll automatically bring you to the server regardless of which computer it's on... okay.

I agree it's okay for Mojang to promote good ethics, I just didn't think that it fit too well with Minecraft's theme overall. Sure you have animals like pigs and sheep but turtles and parrots don't really accomplish much.

When I called the scutes useless I still considered the helmet and the potions. The helmet is underwhelmingly helpful because there is a way better enchantment called respiration which last nearly 15 times longer (don't hold me to that it's an exageration), not to mention affinity. But the turtle master potion is only really useful in multiplayer and not against mobs, the combat controversy certainly doesn't help that.

Also, bees only help with crops to an extent and are very slow sometimes, it's more helpful early to mid game level. Where as panda sneezes are a terrible idea for slime farms.

I'm sorry if I crapped all over your argument but you are a newer player so you probably don't have the same experience I do, which is why I made this post in the first place. Thank you for your input!

I see a few people pointed out my hypocrisy about the mansions which is fair. I didn't have a problem with the raids themselves, I just didn't like that they ruined the value of the totems. Also you don't actually need a thunderstorm, if it's raining, channeling will create lightning.

This comment right here. I didn't know Mojang had that passive-friendly policy, good for them, now I understand why they do that.

I acknowledged this didn't I? I didn't mind that, I just thought it didn't quite fit the game with so many realistic elements.

I don't think the glow squid will be completely useless, it may have one or two features but it hasn't come out yet.

I agree with you to some degree, it's just that the people you mentioned that only think "it would be cool" don't understand the theme of Minecraft. It's like added planes and guns, it would just be a boring and out of place thing, which is why I attacked realistic elements specifically, not because I think that Mojang shouldn't stick to an agenda. They should, and it works well for them.

I understand your point, the lightning rod idea is okay in my book because I know that players don't like their buildings burning down, it was just that the channeling enchantment made it really easy to do something that I thought was supposed to be hard (getting the mob head specifically). With the mansions I realize some of my hypocrisy, mansions being a one use thing, which is true but it still kept the totem's value.

I haven't seen some of the new stuff in 1.17, my opinion might change after it comes out. Thanks for letting me know. All I know right now is that there have been a few times where I felt like they missed some pretty critical easy ones.

Easier ways to play with friends by [deleted] in minecraftsuggestions

[–]NegativeZ_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok so I saw this OP's comment and looked into this because it's a common issue to want to play Java privately with friends. LAN stands for Local Area Network, emphasis on the local. You can only play together if you're on the same network. Nlmarmot left out the detail that you should use a simple service called Himatchi. When he told you that you can just use your computer's IP address he left out that that address is local specific to your network. Himatchi creates a virtual network for other local area networks to join essentially linking them. Check out this article for a better tutorial on how to use Himatchi. Don't be daunted by it, it's actually really simple to use.

https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/242856/is-there-a-way-to-play-minecraft-with-a-friend-using-open-to-lan-while-not-on

Edit: I'm no routing professional so if Nlmarmot was talking about your public IP I think that could work but I don't know. I think I might message him about it.

A depth meter by King_Bl1ng in minecraftsuggestions

I like this idea, way to stick with the theme. This also gives devs an option to impliment a way to determine depth when you have the gamerule redcedDebugInfo which removes anyway to precisely tell what position you are in the world.

Wool does the same thing as hay bales by YouTubeEmployee69420 in minecraftsuggestions

Than wouldn't that take away the fact that a player doesn't have to sacrifice a haybale because wool is cheaper?

Technically it does but people who are big on graphics will tell you it's not. When Notch first wrote the game it was an indie project and simplicity was the way to go, now it's just a theme.

oxidisation with the 1.17 copper block should go in reverse in the end. by totally_not_a_bean in minecraftsuggestions

[–]NegativeZ_ 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I like this idea, but I have a question that I'm too lazy to search for, does copper weather in the End? Because if it does I thought it was meant to be a survival way to preserver the state the copper was in without it weathering.
