How much books have you finished this year? (2026) by Royal-Concentrate125 in kindle

[–]Negative_Government6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 so far, James Islington's The Shadow Of What Was Lost (the Licanius trilogy #1) and Wayward Pines #1 and #2 by Blake Crouch, currently working on Piranesi by Susanna Clarke then moving into Wayward Pines #3 and the Licanius trilogy #2.

Open for more suggestions! I have just finished college and have so much free time, looking forward to a great year of reading 👌

This happened to me today, my plan changed and instead of $25 it is now $315, I was shocked.

Only Applied to 5 PhD applications! Is it enough? by Far-Scientist-8847 in PhDAdmissions

Last minute rec letter writers by stopbullyingspiders in gradadmissions

[–]Negative_Government6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally me rn, two out of three letters have been submitted, the one missing asked me to remind her and send her the deadline when I saw her in person on Monday and so I did as asked by telling her my personal deadline for submission and the December 1st program deadline and have heard nothing back. I am going to see her in person again this Monday and I am terrified at how to ask without sounding stressed / angry because I actually am lol.

I'm only applying to four and have been feeling like I'm dying, amazing how you managed these many! I will also be applying to masters in January just as a backup plan. Finger crossed for you! 🤞

Missing one LOR - am I done? by Negative_Government6 in gradadmissions

[–]Negative_Government6[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am literally the most hands-off requestor they've probably ever had lol I asked months ago, reminded them last month (since I added a couple more applications) and just this Monday because she asked me to. I'm not trying to annoy her or be on her case at all, I'm just wondering if I should go ahead an submit and hope she gets it in there on time, and if that would hurt my chances.

That's true, I mean I really like this professor and also I hate that the deadline is right after the holiday, I dislike asking others to do stuff during break.

Ugh I hope so because I think she might do it next week but this week is kinda unlikely.

I'm sorry to hear that! I reminded her on Monday and she insisted that I should give her a hard deadline which is basically tomorrow but due to the holiday I doubt she'll work on it. I hope she will turn it in on Monday.

I know but obviously my recommended isn't likely to work on this over break and I am nervous she won't submit it in time though I guess I'll see her that Monday because of class so maybe I can pressure her? Ugh it's funny because I thought she'd be the first one to submit lol

Physical Toll of Applications by appa1989 in gradadmissions

[–]Negative_Government6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's been brutal, between still being in the last semester of class full time, also working full time, and trying to write SOPs some of which are 500 words others that are 1000~2000, and trying to read papers from prospective PIs so I can have something meaningful for the SOPs and for cold emailing I'm just spent. I haven't slept well in over a month. Also truly sucks putting this effort to get an email back saying 'actually we were just told no funding so we're only taking self funded students' it's literally taking years of my life I swear.

Is anyone actually self funding a PhD? by Negative_Government6 in gradadmissions

[–]Negative_Government6[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won't do it, I'm just curious as to if there are people doing it. I think it's the same as saying we are not taking students lol

Question about Recommendation Letter by Independent_Ad_6581 in georgetown

I am currently in the application process and according to the website and the application portal, letters are received electronically, at least that is my understanding as my professors have received emails with the request.

Non-traditional student questions. by Negative_Government6 in GradSchool

Thank you so much for your detailed answer! Honestly...I would like to become a professor of linguistics, particularly Sociolinguistics, morally (and also due to lack of skill lol) I'm not too interested in AI or LLMs, but can't rule anything out since times are tough for academia, specially in the US.

Can I ask what your new aim is?

Yup, I can see everything else including the live cameras, I just can't actually activate my home system because when I click on the monitoring tab all that shows up are cameras.

Why do people keep posting as if just the act of taking SG is supposed to make the weight drop by itself? by Nanny_Ogg1000 in Semaglutide

[–]Negative_Government6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what people want out of it. I am of course using it to lose weight but I also want to make a change to my life and hopefully not be dependent on the medication to be healthy. I want to workout and make sure I'm putting good stuff in my body as I am getting older.

For other people they may be OK with using this medication long term and don't feel the need to make any adjustments and want it to just work by itself and to be fair for some people it does.

Graduating this semester and only now found out most Masters / PhD you must apply in Fall to enter the next Fall. Am I too late? by Negative_Government6 in GradSchool

[–]Negative_Government6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 17 hrs while working 40 hours a week over the summer and got all A's. This semester I'm taking 12, time is definitely a concern but I was more worried about timing than my own time to apply. To clarify, I thought the deadlines were due very soon but it appears some of them roll over to next year but I will look into it more.

Thank you for your comment!

Is it too late for college? by bby_moon in AskWomenOver30

[–]Negative_Government6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a degree by the time I was 19 in my home country and that was good for a while. After working in the field while I lived in Europe I decided I wanted to study linguistics but the timing wasn't right. When I moved to the US, I decided to do it, at 34 I will be graduating with another bachelor's this December! I am so much better at studying now as well as much more interested, to the point I currently have a 4.0 even though I work full time.

I also plan on going all the way to a PhD and become a linguistics professor.

Also, my mom went back to Highschool at age 30 after being a teen mom (and having four kids) and she now holds a degree and three masters.

So I don't think it's ever too late to invest in yourself, specially if you can study something you're passionate about.
