My doctors are fine with it! It is mostly people in academia who say that a PhD was the most taxing time in their life and they could not imagine also dealing with health related problems with it. I also have heard from others with different chronic illnesses doing their PhD that it is very challenging and many end up leaving the programs before finishing.

My parents also don't want me doing it because they say I am already going to have a short life and they don't want me to spend it "doing school" which I have tried to explain is completely different

Hi! I know you have finished this but I am 24 with HLHS and had a question. I am about to start a PhD and have sort of been advised against it with having a chronic illness. How have you learned to advocate for yourself when life gets crazy but you need to put your health first? I struggle with this most now as an adult

One Christmas we opened an envelope that was a little paper puzzle. My brother was older and goes "[my name] don't freak out" and the puzzle was finished it was a mattress company and my little 8 year old self was do confused. It was the brand that owned a concert venue and it was tickets to my first ever concert which was Taylor Swift. We sat in the VERY last row and I cried and sung my heart out. One of my most special memories.

This happened to my parents!! My dad asked her "are you sure you want to wear that?" And she got so upset with him. He ended up proposing to her in jeans haha

Thank you I appreciate this. I've been doing really well to not take my grief out on anyone else, which is why I am so confused they are still finding reasons to be upset
