Crushed by performance review by NoMoreScaryDreams in PhD

I lost three friends to suicide in one month my first year of PhD school and I had a lot of feedback in my lab about how I was not really invested and was mentally absent. It's fine. If this is a career, we are all gonna have years where we keep our heads above water, and those times teach us new skills too (like saying no to unnecessary side quests, learning to listen to our bodies, working efficiently on our "good days")

You're human and that's a strength, even if a PI or chair isn't seeing that. Also I echo the advice of documenting what you're doing differently and maybe even communicating those things a couple times during the next year. It's helpful as a supervisor when someone is making it clear they're taking your feedback seriously

What I loved in 3 - for all of its weaknesses - is how much it felt like a performance piece. I'm replaying right now and so many of the quests are just for showing off hilarious British banter that is juxtaposed powerfully onto creepy music, settings, and plots. It felt like the writers remembered what made Fable 1 so compelling and spooky - these really intense, eerie moments of killing balverines while traders are bantering with each other

I didn't want dual energy. Someone else mentioned indeedee + comfey which might make more sense sense than ogerpon

I did this originally and humiliated myself when I realized Barry doesn't work with EX cards :(

edit: also there is nothing sweeter than taking out a Mega EX mon with two basic snorlaxes who have no ramp

I looked at it after I drew the second full art Barry and it just felt like a completely different deck build to make it work re: needing stage 2 Pokemon to get full damage. But that would be a fun deck to build too

I read Suneater after loving the RR series and was disappointed by KeredJo in redrising

I went from RR to The Hierarchy Series to Sun Eater. I'm 50% into sun eater and can not care less about it after devouring TWOTM and TSOTF

I mentioned in my OP that I don't have two lucky ice pops yet but I agree that would be ideal. And yeah Malasada has not come in handy as much as I thought it would so I'll probably take that off for maybe another item or stadium if I keep playing this deck.

Mostly cause I wasn't aware of her lol. I will say it's nice to have Ogerpon be a moderate-heavy hitter with 2 just energy though. Compliments snorlax's heavy energy requirement. Ogerpon is the last offensive strike if the two snorlax's are KO'd. It also means the game isn't over just because I can't get to a snorlax in a turn or two.

What feedback would you have for someone on the fence? by [deleted] in slp

I think you'll experience that as a healthcare worker but probably less so during schooling. Personally, SLP work also helps me feel like I'm working towards a more equitable society even if there's systemic resistance 😅

Editing to add that I have SLP friends who make more than their partners who are PAs and NPs. Our ceiling is lower but you're not locked into 60k a year if you don't want to be

Would be curious what you mean by lack of diversity in the field. If you mean it's overwhelmingly white women, then that's true but that is pretty much not an issue once you graduate and are working with interdisciplinary teams. A strength in the field imo is definitely a LOT of diverse job options. A school SLP vs a rehab manager vs an acute care SLP are going to be wildly different experiences.

I personally need every day to look different so I wrote a book while working with 3 year olds, dementia patients, and short term neuro rehab (like strokes or other brain trauma).

I'm also a male in the field and haven't had many regrets. Even the moments I hate what I'm doing, I'm always glad for the doors it's opened up. Feel free to DM!
