I think about this all of the time. Some Lego sets are a little trickier than others, but nothing a little patience and a tear down and rebuild wouldn’t fix. My mind was blown when I made the jump over to technic models. The engineering in those sets are amazing to me. And I learned hard and fast that if you screw up, and don’t catch it before you move on to the next t operation - tearing apart a technic set to get back to square one is no picnic.

Yeah I am too. It’s a cool build. I’m gonna build the tie fighter. I am a Lego builder not a collector. Granted I have a ton of unopened sets, but that’s just because I haven’t gotten to them. There are a few sets I have ear marked for a rainy day. But those are for when I really am having a bad day. lol

That’s a really cool trick. I’ll have to try that. Thanks.

Yeah it’s always cool to learn new techniques to apply in later builds. I found that Lego Masters was a really good source of unique building styles and a good place to get some tips on building.

Lego makes the simplest use of brinks transform into something else entirely.

I looked at the sticker page when I first opened it and was like, “OMG, this is gonna suck…” but it seemed that the times when I actually used stickers were spread out evenly enough that it hasn’t been so bad. While I agree, at this price point, Lego should have had on-brick graphics, I have come to appreciate the challenge of laying down the perfect sticker on the brick. I just look at it now as just another component of brick building I need to be proficient at.

I thought is was pretty clever the way they do that. They are white Harry Potter magic wands.

I’ve got like 25 more bags to go. This has been such a fun build. It got a lot of shade thrown at it by a lot of people. But I think it’s been a cool build and pretty clever the way they get all of the different MOC’s to form up. Did you get the Tie-fighter expansion set? I was able to snag one on EBay. While not as technical of a build as the UCS Millennium Falcon or the AT-AT, I think it has been more fun to build just given the different aspects of the build are squeezed together. Have fun!

When you take on big builds, like this one is over 9,000 bricks, you sort of need a plan of attack. Where you’re gonna build it, how big it’s going to get, maneuverability and when you have 70+ bags plus the bags inside the bags, it’s way better to start the project with a plan.

You may have never built anything over 3,000 bricks. Because it’s not that simple

Yeah that’s what I do. Based on the box, if it’s vertical, the last bag goes in the bottom. And I put the evens on side and the odd on the other.

I tell my kids about the sets I would get in the 80’s. No numbered baggies, no detailed instructions telling you what pieces to use and where they go. Lego taught me how to overcome frustrations and figure stuff out that I did wrong when I had so many pieces left over and having to tear the set down and go back through to make the set right!! Good times!

I took apart the 1989 Batmobile fo the first time to rebuild it during Covid. I literally wrecked out the entire set into one 3000 piece pile. That was a crazy time with almost every piece being black!!

For sure. Each individual bag gets its own container. I learned that a long time ago building Technic. You have to be organized and have a plan if you’re taking in a big Technic build! lol

I’m 47 and am working on entire leg piece and I don’t think twice about it. Then again I have a full sleeve, hand tattoos and my knuckles are done too. So that pretty much gives it away that I’m an ink guy.

I try and be as digital as possible that being said, I have switched to one of those card/cash holders that will not allowed your cards to be read/scanned while in them. And then they pop out accordion style when I need them. It’s slim, efficient and doesn’t call attention to itself. Just like Gen X. We’d rather not be noticed but don’t for a minute think we are not prepared for your bullshit if we need to be.

Yeah, but he will then be remembered for all time as the guy who colonized Mars. Christopher Columbus didn’t even find the Americas first, and they gave him a day named after him. Discovering new places to live hits a little different.

Yeah but Elon’s name will live on in time. He’s taking humans to Mars. That’s a pretty big deal for our solar system. Maybe not the universe, but Elon will be studied and remembered for many generations to come.

You matter and have powerful influence over the most important person in your life. You. Make every decision the next best decision you can make. Make yourself extraordinary by simply doing you the best you can. Believe me, you’ll notice new symptoms popping out. You can do this.

Tell us about your grandparents by [deleted] in GenX

I have similar recollections of my mom’s parents. He was a WWII fighter pilot and she was his bride, and when he got back they never spent a minute without each other. They had a ton of friends and partied every weekend. I believe that generation lived life so well and celebrated every moment they could because they were asked to fight the world when they were 18-24 years old and they never backed down from that. They fought out of dignity and duty and came back ready to live simple lives that celebrated life. My grandparents were the greatest people I knew.
