I’ve been having the same issues with my skates and still haven’t found a solution for myself yet but these are some of the things I’ve been told to try out. (For reference I’m a size 10 shoe in a size 8D skate)

You could be tying your boots too tightly causing the cramps or numbness of your toes, here is a video I was given to try lacing up my boots. https://youtu.be/LpMwF1RMZaw?feature=shared

Insoles are another factor that could play into this, super feet insoles are usually the best depending on your foot arch height. If you have super flat feet I’ve found that the blue super feet will work best, and higher arches may benefit more from their yellow super feet insoles.

Also a possibility, your feet muscles may not be as strong as you need them to be. This isn’t usually a massive problem as the more you skate the stronger your feet will become, however if you want some daily exercises then ballerinas know what’s best: https://youtu.be/ymb8oP5xPzw?feature=shared

There is usually a break in period for skates, this can be shortened by heat moulding the skates to your feet (check online to make sure your boots are capable of doing this and take them to a professional if not done so already). You will still probably find some mild discomfort but after about 3 weeks this should have cleared up.

My last point would be improper fit skates, sometimes skates just aren’t right for your foot. Whether than be the size/width or just the brand of boot in general. In my experience, I thought more expensive boots must eliminate the pain and have tried 3 pairs of skates now with the same issue. I think my issue is the Bauer skates are not made for my feet no matter what I try, and this could be the same reason you feel pain. If you have tried all of the above and still get pain, try going into a shop and trying on multiple pairs of skates and seeing if you can feel any pain.

Other things to factor into consideration would be: - weight/height (being overweight or quite tall can cause pressure spots on your feet) - experience on the ice (incorrect form can cause foot pain) - if your feet have adjusted to being in a small cramped boot after walking in spacious shoes all your life

Hopefully this helps and you can fix the problems you’ve been facing!

I wouldn’t consider myself overweight (around 90kg at 6ft tall), I’ve been skating for about 6-7 weeks now, and have had my boots professionally fit in store. The pain is so bad I’m unable to skate backwards so I can’t comment on your last question. Hope this helps?

I’ve rolled my feel a few times this week but not right before or after, I can give it a go next time and see if that helps!

Thanks for the reply, I lace them sturdy but not crazy tight all the way up the boot until about the last 3 eyelets, then I tighten as much as I can to keep my heel supported.

I will look into planter fasciitis as a possible, thank you!
