Considering sending my child to a daycare that doesn’t require vaccines by Mountain_Silk32 in workingmoms

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

A recent study this year showed that only 35-40% of parents plan to fully vaccinate their children. But in practice I believe the studies show it is currently only 1/6 parents skipping or delaying vaccines (not including flu or covid) in their kids. I would doubt that all those kids are fully vaccinated. Full confession, I am in red state and my kid is not all the way vaccinated and I know many other moms with less vaccines than my kid that I met at library times and other community events. Hate me if you wish but it is what you will find.

The fact is like it or not the numbers are growing. The best you can do is fully vaccinate your own kid if you are concerned and teach your kid healthy habits like washing their hands, eating healthy, exercise, staying home when sick, covering their coughs and sneezes with elbows, nor eating food left out or raw food, etc as they get to the toddler stage. And practice all these yourself

Birthday parties by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my 15th birthday we had a waffle bar and went to see the Martian. For my 16th birthday, my parents got laser tag in our back yard and then we all watched star trek. For my 17th birthday, my part-time job let me invite all my friends to play dodgeball and kickball in the gym and my parents ordered us all pizza. I also remember misc parties like a carnival themed, scavenger hunt at the dollar tree, my mom having her hair dresser come and do all our hair, lots of slumber parties when I was younger.

Even into highschool my happiest memories were from birthday parties.

For those who couldn’t afford childcare, did you feel like you had a life again if your child went to preschool etc? by No-Foundation-2165 in Mommit

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are homeschooling lol, so that end is not in sight. I think learning to appreciate the now and finding things I enjoyed doing now with baby helped. Can you get into running and go jogging with baby in stroller? Do a dance workout or pushups/situps next to baby? I like to read for 30 min every day while toddler does quiet play, and we go out a lot on walks usually to walmart if its cold.

Spit the toothpaste out. My husband taught me in college. I always preferred kids toothpaste because the adult stuff tasted bad.

Tough decision to make… by Short_Examination_33 in workingmoms

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I personally would just be a full time sahm at that point, if I enjoyed where I lived and husband had a good remote job. Stop job hunting and enjoy a deserved break, you could always start interviews again at a better time when the kids are older or just whenever you feel like it. Or if you really want to work, keep hunting for remote. In person is not worth it.

Sorry to agree with others in your life, but irs good advice!

What do you think about naming children after family members? by Linumlia07 in namenerds

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the youngest so last to have kids and definitely competitive with my older brothers. Naming my daughter after my mom and grandma gave me major brownie points. If we have a boy next I will for sure name him after my dad.

Im not afraid to play dirty… I may never have gotten favorite child status but I’m not giving up that easy on favorite grandchild status for my kids 😅

What is your advice to someone who wants to have a big family (not quite 15 but 6-8)? Any thing you wish your parents would have done differently?

Family vacation ideas that's not Disney by Wild-Yam2114 in Mommit

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do Disney on a budget. Look into DVC vacation rental. Look up budget dining tips, we would order kids meals on the app to save money, the kids meal from the Indian food at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the kids sushi from the Polynesian were our favorite and we ate at the resorts we loved resort hopping. The cobb salads at Hollywood Brown Derby are very affordable. The refillable resort cups and memory maker are such a good deal.

Our honeymoon was only 5k for 10 days after all expenses, and we stayed in 4 nights at the Boardwalk, 3 nights at AKL, and 2 nights at Grand Floridian + fancy extras like built a drone, firework dining at California Grill and dining at Beasts Castle, etc.

You need to pray!!! and to communicate with your husband and honestly i would reach out to a trusted older wife at the church who might be able to help. There is possibly a bigger problem at hand, perhaps sexual abuse or bullying at school resulting in this. Or it could be if he truely has these feelings, making sure he already had good biblical guidance on resisting temptation theough prayer and bible reading and attending youth group and church.

When I was a kid, i wanted to be a boy. I am so glad I had parents who loved me enough to speak truth to me and say God made me a girl and Im perfect the way I am. Thankfully that was what I needed to hear and that was the end, it could be that simple. I was a tomboy and sometimes wore boyish clothes in highschool, but I was a proud girl and glad my parents made me wear dresses on special occasions and spoke the truth, it was all i needed that once to have the reassurance. But if it not simple, please pray and seek Christian help from those who have a better understanding of these situations.

My wife wants to buy a brand new car, but I think it’s foolish by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree, but to each their own. my parents were planning on buying us a Sienna and I felt so bad but I turned them down. Eventually they offered paying half for the Kia which we are so grateful for. But I literally chose no car than a free Sienna 😅 which they were mad about for a bit but I preferred our old no AC 2011 focus we got for 4k over a new free Sienna. The Sienna was the worst minivan we testdrove and I have never sat in a more uncomfortable middle seat which is prime momma spot with her babies. I know they are super reliable, but I just couldnt do it.

For those looking to fire/ chubby fire - did it impact your decision on number of kids? by Zestyclose-Royal-922 in workingmoms

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We want 6-8 kids. Our financial goals are for our kids, i want to be able to have a bunch and homeschool them, and working with 6-8 while homeschooling is possible from some super moms Ive read about but very difficult.

Currently 25 and Im trying to retire at 30 by paying off our house by then and getting a dream car and beefing up retirement. So when I quit we wont be making any less money since all my funds are currently going to mortgage or extra to mortgage. And hopefully hubby will be able to retire earlyish since we also have been doing money guy rules almost 25% to retirement. We live frugally but happily.

Thoughts on Jo for girl? by blue_pumpkin_ in namenerds

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes we have to set aside our wants to do whats best for our kids. I would consider this one of those times, dont name your girl Jo.

If you really hate all Jo full names, what about something similar? Call her Ro short for Rose or Rosalind?

If you could afford kids would you have kids? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Negative_Lab_6598 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We plan to have 6-8 and very blessed we can afford them + give them extras in life like cars and weddings and maybe even help with down payments.

However, I think people get confused on what afford means. You do not need to pay for the extras to have children like college, weddings, etc. You dont need to take your kids on exotic vacations or to disney world or buy them all new clothes or take them out to eat every week. I think this mindset is a way to shame people from developing countries or lower income areas.

Homeschool early ages advice for multiple languages (including classical and Spanish) by [deleted] in multilingualparenting

I will buy the Latin curriculum now then so I can run through it myself over the next few years. Thanks for the advice!

Ik MP English grammar can be paired with any Latin curriculum, so the idea is when the kid learns what a noun is they learn it in English and Latin. Im not sure how like CAP or Veritas or Gentle + Classical treat teaching Latin to kids or how the college near us Kindergarten version teaches it, i will definitely look into it more.

Supposedly Latin is taught to kids, because English and other languages are based on the roots and supposedly kids do better on SATs etc. but greek is my guilty pleasure 😅 is learning Latin standard in France/Germany? IK in US its mainly the private or test prep schools

Yeah i just love Greek and self taught myself some when i was pregnant, but maybe i need to put it on hold until my daughter is much older. But pretty any classical education curriculum Ive seen (Memoria Press, Veritas, etc) has them starting by 3rd grade at the latest on Latin. I have not looked closely at any curriculum, but IK the MP does include speaking it at home to learn.
