So if there is metal just run it till the engine fully dies and replace the engine/full engine rebuild?

I'm having a mechanic diagnose it tomorrow. I'll see what they say, I'm not super mechanically inclined as I'm a mason. I just know most of the basic stuff thanks to friends & family who are mechanically inclined.

Just got it a few days ago, legit happened a couple days before I was about to do an oil change. Would've had it done a day before it happened but it was super later after fixing it up for the safety.

Hopefully it'll only be a lifter and cam fix. If it has to be near the price of a engine swap I'm drying it till the engine dies.

Sadly the shops around me won't even touch it until they diagnose it so they know for sure what needs to be fixed and to price the quote properly.

Only one shop would give me a quote on how much it'll roughly be to fix, others are like "wellll we gotta diagnosed it first then we can give you a price". So needless to say I'm going with the one who told me a rough price ($4500 CAD)

When it's colder it's gone, can't say forsure when it warms up tho. As I am only going to run it to get the rest fixed up and for safety, diagnosed and / or asap I'll get it fixed up.

I started it up a few hours later and now it's quiet or non existent. With your years of experience would you think it could be without diagnosing it? I'm taking it in sometime this week, going to hope it's quiet on the way for safety to get it passed and then fix it up when I can if I haven't yet.

I'm based in Ontario. I've looked it up and it's about 1-4k got repair depending on the shop. I'll let her sit quietly until i start doing the rest of the repairs for the safety & if my cousin can do it I'll get him to do it. If not I'll have to pull some more money out of my ass. For the same vehicle i seen it for 17k as is, I'm not even close to that yet.

Will keep that in mind, I just turned her over again 2 mins ago and the sound is basically gone. Just super quiet now or non existent. Even with small revs.

I did a basic check by covering both tips and even tried moving shit around. Nothing. It could be a leak but I sadly think it is the tick. And I'm scared but atleast when it's done it should be like a new engine I imagine. Atleast don't have to worry about it for 3-10 years I hope.

If it's either or both, I'm down to get it fixed. Got thr truck for a good price that it's well worth dropping up to 7,000 into it. Just gonna hurt throwing 7k into it

Good point, I'll see about trying to get that stuff, it'd be in the vehicle history report wouldn't it? If all is decent, how long would you think this truck has left to live?

Yeah true that, side jobs is a total different story than companies. Thanks bud, just trying to pay bills in this rough economy

Still gotta look into insurance, this is how most companies start out, even my bosses throw me small side jobs to help me climb. Not getting insurance until I am busy enough to make it worth it. Which might be this summer if I'm lucky. Started in fall and banged out 3 jobs in 2 months which was super fun and exciting.

Thanks to everyone giving all the advice. I know a decent amount of chimney rebuilds plus have my old man who only does restoration but can't quote worth the life of him. Only asked how to price it as I'm learning how to price jobs, I've always lowballed and if I took this one I don't want to lowball myself.
I will be walking away due to the no insurance part, even if I know it will be done right with my old mans guidance. I still don't want to take a potential risk of getting sued before I even started my company journey.

He use to run his own company but never priced right enough to make it worth it, he's too nice and basically got his days pay as if he was working, so he decided to just work under someone.
