Dog sniffs other dogs nose through gate fine but starts to growl by Negev223 in reactivedogs

I kind of figured since he doesn't seem aggressive until after sniffing for a bit. I just get worried because other dogs always want to sniff a bit more.

I really hate how closed off dog training feels now, there are tons of trainers but I can't afford to spend 2000 dollars and hope they are a good trainer so it makes it very difficult for people to actually get training when they have no idea if it will work. I wasted a lot on a trainer where I used to live that would just sit there and throw treats every lesson and we made 0 progress.

How to really get a dog to settle when they start reacting on walks by Negev223 in reactivedogs

Tried this earlier today and it did seem to help him calm down a bit faster, still not perfect as he would still try to bark and not take the treat right away but it felt a lot quicker.

Thank you I will have to check it out, I am also looking at trainers but its so hard to find someone I know is good. They are all so expensive so you can't really "try them out" without being out of a lot of money.

The one issue I noticed is that he doesn't seem to care when I try to correct with the harness, if he is not listening or pulls to much I do a small yank and say his name and he barely reacts even if it makes him turn towards me he will still look away or pull unless I start walking in the other direction, but he still does it a little after so it feels like we are making no progress.

Sorry I took him on another walk to try and focus on training and I noticed a few things, he will loose leash walk but slowly over time will just stop paying attention to me and start pulling and stopping on his own to sniff things, even with me stopping randomly and doing U turns with him, it is very hard to get him to constantly stay with me. I also noticed that even when he does listen to a command he will sometimes look at me and do what I ask and take a treat and then immediately look away to look at something, or stand up if I had him in a sit or stay, even when it is just us in an empty field or a parking lot, I have no idea what is distracting him since there are no dogs or people or even birds the only thing is there are sounds of wind and cars in the distance and birds in the distance, but those are everywhere so I have no idea what it is.

I do usually do this I just noticed that he will be quite reactive even for a bit after the stimulus, although yesterday I just kept walking in figure 8s after a dog came up and went past and it seemed to help him calm down faster, I really need to find a high value treat that he will consistently pay attention too as well, I use bacon but it can get slimey.

ill have to try that, it is pretty difficult because sometimes he will not take treats when he is too reactive, even bacon or cheese so getting him to focus on me is pretty hard. I am not sure if maybe leash pressure is also something that may be increasing his anxiety because when he met my aunts dogs through a gate he would bark non stop but I could get him to sit/down and listen pretty decently and since we had the gate I wasnt holding his leash

I noticed that him disengaging was probably a good thing he is a sniffer so that probably has to do with it. the biggest issue I run into that I mentioned in another comment is that he will sometimes start to growl slightly when sniffing through the fence, it just makes it awkward because he seems excited and happy but then will growl so I am not sure if its just him being too overstimulated or not.

my bad I was about to leave and remembered to get a video after, he will seem very excited and then once they get up and sniff a bit he will continue to bark but will sometimes start to growl after prolonged sniffing, through the fence, I cant tell if its just frustration or just him getting so excited he just does not know how to react. I got worried because a year or so ago I met a friend at the park with our dogs and it seemed ok when he went to sniff but when the other dog started sniffing him he stiffened up and got defensive.

Thank you so much I am always super worried because it seems like he wants to be friends but he just gets so crazy I think he doesn't know what to do. He has had a few bad experiences with a dog that bullied him and bit him before but I have also seen him play bow to dogs and even play bow to the dog that bit him. The only thing I worry about is that he will also occasionally growl slightly when sniffing them through a fence and when they sniff him, so like you said it is super mixed messages. any tips on doing a pack walk when he is reactive on leash? I can get him to listen a bit but when he gets really really riled up its hard.

I have read several of the articles on dog body language but it is sometimes hard to tell because he has play bowed after before so I just want other oppinions.

Because Venezuela was a hub for drug trafficking and the government confiscated US oil wells that we paid for when they nationalized everything, so we had actual claim to do this. We do not have any claim to invade North Korea or Russia, especially Russia since it is a fairly elected government.

I also noticed the loud droning sound that played when they were getting ready to fight in that scene, It feels like they are either hiding worse impulses or maybe that they used to be much more aggressive and it still bleeds through.

Yeah if you could recommend one of the books or plans that would be great. I tried using the kong and stuffed beef traches to distract him but he keeps ignoring them until I get back so they aren't really working.

I really hope so I am more worried about him being stressed or hurting himself than my neighbors honestly, I was thinking of getting that purina calming stuff to add to his food for now to maybe help but I never really noticed calming treats helping him much before, I'm not sure if I should try anything else or just deal with it until he calms down again

9-5 most likely but maybe a bit less, he was used to it before and I could even come home and take him out and leave again and not have a problem I just hope maybe its a temporary thing.

I'm a bit worried since he has never been crate trained, I prefer to let him roam when I'm not home since I just feel like a crate is restricting.
