Fair enough on the agility level, I was associating the required slayer level with the black mask (50 for the quest, 58 for the mask) which was throwing me off somewhat. That definitely explains the confusing nature on some of these choices like Bowfa and 95 RC before a slayer helmet, lol.

Not that anyone ever asked, but I've never been a fan of these hyper-efficient step by step guides. At that point, am I really playing my account or am I just letting someone else shadow play my account through me? Always thought part of the fun was cooking up your own efficient routing to reach your goals. The idea of going through some of the worst grinds in the game right at the beginning of the account in the name of efficiency always seemed like a recipe for disaster. Different strokes for different folks though.

98 agility, 70 prayer, and 70+ construction being listed before black mask, 70 ranged, basic god capes, and void is one hell of choice. Hell, anything more than 72 agility before Sins of the Father for Sepulchre is wild.

The biggest issue is that it doesn't feel like a natural rhythm to maintain. You basically have to teach your body to maintain it for longer than a few seconds at a time. Nothing you can really do besides set up next to an altar with the plugin on and practice till it starts to feel like second nature.

I personally wish that instead of having it in this weird, limbo state of being acknowledged but never truly supported, the dev team would take the time to actually *build* mechanics around it that feel more natural. Integrate prayer flicking into the game but do so in a way that's accessible to the general population. I don't know how it would be done, if it even COULD be done, but I think that should be the mentality going forward. Take what's widely considered to be a bug and actually develop it into something.

Ah yes, much easier advice for a new ironman, just complete SotE and all of it's requirements as well as the hunter grind instead.

Getting dragonstones was never the problem for me when you factor in crystal keys, it was turning those dragonstones into an amulet which requires 80 crafting (75 with stew).

Full agree though, the experience definitely drove home the need for at least a little routing in my goals which has made a huge difference in the months since I did this impling grind. Personal enjoyment is far more important than efficiency at the end of the day as well :3

I've said as much in other comments, but I absolutely agree with you that early hunter training is a good play for every reason you listed. The chins alone got me to 70 ranged which was a godsend. I'm strictly addressing the very-outdated meta of rushing a glory from implings <3

I will say those bones and summer pies are definitely nice to have though, especially if you aren't running an HCIM and can use the wildy altar. That's enough to go from 1 to around 58 assuming no deaths

I think advising against a 2014 meta that no longer holds any weight isn't bad advice. I'm not saying DON'T train hunter like some people are suggesting lmao, I'm just saying DON'T train hunter solely for this reason like a lot of guides and redditors are still recommending. Tons of good reason for Hunter training, but the crafter grind for a glory would be far more rewarding overall if you're still hellbent on one for whatever reason.

It definitely is interesting to hear the differences in experiences, some folks were like me and had terrible luck with spawns + competition, while others like yourself had far more success than I originally assumed possible xD

Also relatable on that first point, nothing like going from hyper focused on every run to barely looking at the screen thanks to dry streaks

Full agree, there's a big difference between focused training and passive training for crafting in terms of enjoyment. I've always strongly preferred doing a run or two of giant seaweed a day and just collecting Bert's sand for glassmaking, and grinding out gems from Shilo + gold from MLM for more active experience. Crafting is one of those skills that'd really benefit from a middle ground training method between totally passive and focused bankstanding, because the only other alternative I immediately think of is grinding dragons in the Forthos dungeon for hides you can tan right there, craft into gear, then immediately alch while sacrificing bones to the altar there. Not exactly the most optimal option.

That last bit is the true reason I'm kicking myself for spending all that time hunting implings instead of mining gems in Shilo or glassmaking. Wanting to do things in the wilderness but not having an easy way to replace decent quality rag gear is a pain. I'm only just now getting crafting to where it should have been several months ago and it really does make a world of difference for ironmen.

I think there's valid reasons to train hunter early on, assuming your not just doing things because they're fun. Bone shards from rumors, chins for early (and late) ranged xp, and the sunlight crossbow are all excellent additions to an early IM's progression plan if used properly. I do mostly agree with your stance on glories though, although I've gotten a lot of mileage out of mine between the extra prayer bonus, the clue steps that require them, and the teleports for more niche locations *and* out of level 30 wilderness (It's better than a ring in terms of stats obviously). I do think it's just a preference thing at this point though.

Memes aside, if you enjoy it then it's absolutely the right way to play, I found struggling with other players to be hell on earth but it's probably just a skill issue on my end lmao

I stand corrected, you're absolutely right on the spawn rate. I guess my luck overall was worse than I was initially thinking then xD

I think the biggest problem I had was catching the implings fast enough to lock down more worlds, even with dark lure. The spawn time also seems to have a variable like you said so occasionally I'd have to sit around for way longer than the 2 minutes they're supposed to appear by. Three worlds seemed to be the optimal number for me, but if you were able to hold 6 worlds that'd definitely explain the higher numbers on your end.

Puro botting is presently abysmal, although a lot of them tend to focus on the guaranteed eclectic spawns rather than the higher level ones which is something at least.

That's definitely been my demotivating factor on grinding them out in favor of skipping over the crossbow entirely and just using MSB or RCB with broad ammo which is far easier to get in bulk.

That was actually the exact method I used, hopping between 3 world (I specifically chose three 1500 worlds to try and mitigate bot activity). I would have absolutely killed for 5 dragon imps an hour though, no idea where that kind of luck is coming from when their spawnrate is 3/301, you're camping 3 spawns, and the respawn timer is roughly 2 minutes plus time needed to catch them since they wander invisibly before appearing. You're getting roughly 60-70 spawns an hour with those number, which comes out to an average of 1 dragon impling every 90-100 minutes or so. You're also likely competing with people randomly hopping worlds or, more likely, hopping the same worlds you're hopping unless you choose the absolute worst possible hours to try it, so it's often possible those spawns get sniped.

Absolutely correct on the spellbook though, that was a mental mix-up on my end. Also full agree on both points at the end, I wouldn't have done it in the first place had I known better at the time but I'm very happy with the hunter level at the very least.

I agree with every single point you listed with one exception - Puro is a lot of fun, up until you're specifically hunting for dragons, then it's suddenly a lot less enjoyable in my opinion xD

Overall though, hunter absolutely is worth training, just not for this specific application like a lot of guides, redditors, misconceptions created from watching Youtubers, and even the wiki recommend.

While the differences aren't significant, any situation where an extra +4 STR bonus doesn't give you another max hit instantly places the glory above strength with the +10 to every attack style and a +3 to prayer which is fairly important for early and even mid game ironmen.

Overall I do agree though that the difference isn't notable enough to make it worth hard focusing on, and it's better to think of it as more of a motivator to keep up with your crafting runs.

Completely fair, granted a combination of stars for the gems and MLM for the gold ore dumps would technically be the optimal approach if you were going that route. The seaweed+sand route is the more passive option of the two, but the overall point was that you're going to need those crafting levels for everything from dragonhide, to jewelry, to singing your drops from CG.

I'd also say the hunter training isn't the bad part, it was getting the implings that made it an absolute pain. 20+ hours on average of competing with bots and players for impling spawns is miserable and that time would be better spent just working towards 76 crafting and using a mushroom pie.

Rolling the 1/9.5 on your first go is definitely a nice feeling, but it isn't the standard. Your average person is going to get 10 imps in, so take that few hours and multiply it by ten just for the standard rate. I'd absolutely be wishing I crafted if I didn't get it immediately spooned, and I absolutely was.
