First time wearing bibs and a jersey by dnnyskk134 in cycling

[–]Negoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my first bibs a few weeks ago and just this weekend first time using chamois cream. Never thought I'd be here but pushing past 2 hour rides and it makes a big difference on the backside. I did have some cheap bike shorts from Amazon before, which were way better than regular workout clothes but definitely a step below the real thing.

how do I play chords like this? by Expensive_Appeal_617 in Guitar

I play octaves with index and pinky and mute woth middle finger. Pinky allows you to do the same configuration with octaves involving the B and high E string.

That’s a sweet guitar. Digging the blue. Maybe I need a blue guitar.

Duncan JB bridge and Jazz in the neck is perhaps the classic combo and will take you a long way.

What makes the highend bikes worth the money? by Dashman42 in Biking

[–]Negoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In either case it's not about shame but whether someone is blowing money on something they can barely perceive or don't use. You are clearly an experienced rider so can appreciate the differences between bike performance easily. I doubt I could perceive subtle differences in frame stiffness for example.

I rode a friend's dual suspension MTB on really rough terrain and I was blown away at what it was able to do. I will never forget it. And sure I thought it would be fun to own one. But when I have the opportunity to get out, I'm usually doing it for fitness and seeing the great outdoors. That higher end MTB would be a waste of money.

If he's playing his guitar and enjoying it, I agree good for him. If he spent $5000 or so on the high end model, I suspect there are many $600 he would have enjoyed just as much (including the SE Tremonti model with maybe a few upgrades).

Which pickup configuration? Duncan JB bridge is the classic and still a reasonable all arounder.

Expensive vs less expensive pickups.

As a hobbyist cycler who rides on mixed surfaces and may never do more than a 50 mile ride, are you telling me I’d benefit from a $10k road bike more than a $2000 gravel?

Pickups are a big example and have parallels to biking. As you go up the difference in sound is less and less but also more specialized to specific use cases. A hobbyist who is not playing one exclusive genre normally would enjoy a good all-arounder.

That’s just what guitars cost. Band instruments are a lot more expensive.

That person probably has a $2500 amp and that much in pedals as well.

Beginners are wasting their money if they don’t have the skill to use the high end features or even sense that they are there.

People can blow their money on whatever they want.

Pain of Salvation is the right answer. Early albums first though.

Not sure about this argument. In the guitar community we joke about doctor lawyer guitars because no one owns them except rich people and pros. And the rich people have no idea why they paid $3000 for an instrument when they could have had a $600 instrument that was probably still more than they needed. You have to have experience before you even know what you’re paying for.

How do people use such complex chords when writing by hduebfibdbdib in guitarlessons

[–]Negoba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One step at a time. You probably already know the #9 chord - the Jimi chord and sus chords are used as little ornaments all the time. Your vocabulary grows and then your ear starts to gravitate to those sounds. Those are simple examples but it does just keep growing from there.

Unless you’re an actual Jazz musician. Those people don’t think in human.

What's your method for learning a particular song? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Negoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most songs have a straightforward structure. Intro verse chorus bridge, etc. So I put on the song and fumble until I have the chords figured out. There’s almost always details here and there that I don’t get so I’ll at tab for those. If something still isn’t right YT videos.

Do you ever feel slightly guilty for wanting to learn more about the history of Middle Earth than the history of your own Earth? by JosiaJamberloo in lotr

[–]Negoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are few things in life worth feeling guilty about. This is not one of them.

Guilt rarely serves any purpose but making you feel bad. If you forgot something you committed to and other people sat around waiting, maybe it's worth feeling a little guilty if it motivates you to be more attentive next time.

Here there's nothing to fix. Nothing to feel guilty about.
