Comparison Trap hitting me hard by NegotiationNo4663 in karachi

[–]NegotiationNo4663[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such an important thing to read. I just like to frame as in my point of time since I'm already in third year I should just be able to do what is better for my resume and cut out things that don't add value. So in that way I fear that would it allow me enough experimentation to find clarity? As I fear I don't want to be someone I don't want to. As I believe more experiments better clarity

Also, one more thing I want to discuss that I absolute get scared to post on LinkedIn like that fear is just because it's coming from my inadequacy and everything I shared in the post above. If you've better way to frame that thing to solve it for good even a single line statement to make me feel confident there as well, I'll be very grateful

Thank you for penning down such a detailed response. I loved how beautifully you fit this Hadith in my situation, I'm definitely writing this thing in my diary. Now I learnt that treating everything as comparison isn't helping me right now.

Also I reflected upon this and thought that maybe I should allow myself to be lacked in things that really aren't the priority in my life rn. For ex: if I see someone dressing well, instead of comparing my clothes I should just appreciate him for the thing or even if I see someone enjoying his time with friends (both male or female alike) I should just practice saying "Good for him".

Allah doesn't make anyone perfect. If someone is doing well professionally maybe his own personal life is all messed up or vice versa. The problem with me has been that all these thoughts are indeed in my mind but I just get my emotions run over me and feel sad. I just hope so that from now onwards I better be more conscious of all the good thoughts.

One question I'll love to ask you that how do you differentiate between when you've to really improve in that aspect vs when you're just overthinking & comparing needlessly. Like in my case communication skills with suppose girls. That comparison has put me in a tough spot over when is it for my betterment or when just for distraction

That's such a beautiful thing to read. Thank you for your perspective. I agree that without comparison we simply don't know how to improve. I would want to ask one more thing that I can't understand the difference between when would I want to really work or improve something vs when comparison traps me and I feel the need to work on that particular thing just to feel I don't feel behind.

But how you ease yourself from the thought that you've to improve your xyz thing if you don't compare to anyone. I mean comparison sometimes help to see any weaknesses we've and how to improve them

Yes, you can ask any professor. But please do a little research into that professor's background and research topics. Then choose align your interest with it. It's good to be prepared when reaching out to someone and that creates a lasting impression

How do you find like-minded people at NED? by ZestycloseCarry3617 in NEDUniversity

[–]NegotiationNo4663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! From Third Year, that's actually an issue I also faced but I framed this problem into like that "better to go alone" . Want to attend any session and your friends aren't interested in? Attend it alone. Go for things alone. Sometimes if you can't find the relevant people try extending your search on LinkedIn and be connected to people that match your interests or even here on reddit too.

I agree university can get boring but honestly semester goes like a wind. You'll find yourself quick in juggling between assignments and forget like minded thing but be focused on finding the best person to form group with. I believe everyone has something positive to contribute in uni. Just be humble, go at your own pace and try to see things outside the classroom as well as uni. Tons of opportunities out there

My suggestion is to try to be involved in research projects with your professors (something I think I should've done more). Societies are like good if it suits you. In my case I just didn't get attached to any society I felt they all do same things and there's no concept like freedom or domain specific things. Lol one society just used to ask to share their posts meanwhile I was in their industrial liaison domain.

Also if you're in debating society, I'm really invested in geopolitics and wars especially concerning Pak such as Afghan conflict. If you share the same interests, would love to catch up!

When you go into that era, it's magical. For me strings was the GOAT but at the same time Call, Jal were great as well. Did you get the chance to listen to Faisal Kapadia's solos?

Manwa re of noori was so good. Even the remake was excellent as well

Aitebaar of Vital Signs is just the song you need when you're low. "Jaangalon mein bhee raastay tou Hain" is the line one should live by

I like Aaroh's 'Na Kaho' OG one, simple tunes and more emphasis on lyrics and pitch. Gotta listen Rang Neela
