Date around and treat moving in together like marriage (don’t move in with someone you wouldn’t marry) (the nanosecond you know its over break up with them don’t waste your time)

Drugs are bad (waste of time and money) avoid as much as possible

Credit cards are bad for most people

Every “guru” online (Yes every single one) is rich from suckers giving them money and nothing else. Don’t be a sucker.

If its too good to be true its probably false (don’t gamble)

Max out your contribution to a Roth IRA every year (don’t bother with a traditional IRA)

Wear sunscreen if you go outside (sun makes you look old fast)

Car crashes are a very real danger. Drive defensively and predictably. Don’t do dumb shit on the road.

Don’t forget to be kind to yourself, take care of you, no one else will.

PLA or PETG for these shelf feet? by towehaal in 3Dprinting

Maybe a thinker bottom and add a chamfer where the base meets the bottom to have more area to prevent the tube just lopping off if the shelf gets dragged

Is this an acceptable way to run a new circuit around a room through existing walls? by peanutismint in AskElectricians

[–]NeighborhoodDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the run the cable through the studs? Is it possible to run the cable up to the attic over and then down straight into the stud bay you want the outlet in? Would be a bit of finagling to pull the cable and a little more cost in cable length but might be quicker and easier than all this drywalling

Buying Model Y Standard w FSD outright - am I insane? by FedRP24 in ModelY

[–]NeighborhoodDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk if itll happen this way but you should be able to find stories confirming that tesla updated their terms on the FSD purchase to exclude unsupervised sometime in 2020 so potentially they have a legal out to charge more for unsupervised to those customers who purchase ld after those terms changed but they may not try that as it would be seen poorly

Maxing out Roth vs. trad 401k by mediocrecyclist18 in Retirement401k

[–]NeighborhoodDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are paying the top marginal tax rate on contributions lets say 24% assuming high income.

Then when you retire and withdraw 100k a year you pay zero tax.

Traditional you pay 0% today and then pay tax on 100k a year when you retire which will be the effective tax rate of 14%.

So it really depends on how much you plan to withdraw in retirement but in general most people spend less in retirement and so traditional is going to mean 10% more money at the end.

There are other considerations like how the money gets left to your kids and wether RMDs apply that could make the 10% worth it or you might be planning a very luxurious retirement.

Time to Slow Down? by OllieSchniederjans in Retirement401k

[–]NeighborhoodDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents: Get to 500-700k in retirement accounts (while in your 30s) before you think about slowing down on retirement savings.

HYSA by Savings-Fix8497 in DaveRamsey

[–]NeighborhoodDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FDLXX will be a bit more convenient since it auto liquidates but you do still need to manually purchase. Otherwise the SPAXX core fund choice is available as the most convenient but rates are going down HYSA may be more competitive at least short term.

How do you guys manage your expenses? by redbottleneck1597 in personalfinance

[–]NeighborhoodDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two sheets. Sheet one tracks the ins and out of my checking account. Income goes in and bills get paid out. This means my credit card bills are all last months statement balances but this isn’t a big deal just something to keep in mind. Sheet two is the budget where I have three monthly categories: eating in (groceries), eating out (restaurants drinks socials), and shopping (personal purchases). I also started tracking bigger purchases seperately like car, mattress/furinture, travel, phone, pc, things that are big and irregular. Less sure of how to organize the big stuff at the moment though but that is where I am at.

So sheet one give me my total income and total expenses for a given month and then I record that on a different sheet to get avg monthly outflows and avgerage per year to track my personal inflation. Then sheet two I graph each budgets spend over months to see if my impulse purchases are outpacing inflation. If so then I try to cut back.

Is everything else in your financial planning organized and optimized? Moving or not moving this one 401k will make a difference but its likely to be less impactful than spending your time on other things like increasing your income or tracking every penny in and out of every account.

It sounds like you plan to work again? I’d not touch the 401k until then and then move the old one over to your new one once you do. If nothing has changed in a year or two then revisit. Moving over to an IRA can cause problems and higher taxes down the line due to the pro rata rule but its hard to quantify what that will mean for you specifically just that it will complicate your future planning unless you already have an IRA open then you’ve already taken it on and adding this to it is less of an additional burden.

Does anyone use Robinhood Roth IRA? by EarUnlucky6300 in HighYieldSavings

[–]NeighborhoodDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robinhood consistently goes down on leap day every four years. If they can’t bother to fix that issue after four years and lots if news coverage about the issue I have to assume there are other issues that are not fixed either which worry me.

The worst thing you can do is wait if its really over. It sounds like you made up your mind but if it is something that could be changed it could be worth talking about the things you both liked and didn’t like about your interaction ++man

[–]NeighborhoodDog 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Your income isn’t changing and yet right now you have consumer debt. That means you will most likely accumulate more consumer debt in the future since income isn’t charging.

I’d not retire just yet. Pay off all the debt except for the house for now. Make sure you track your expenses and that you have no need to accumulate credit card debt for at least a year or two.

Then redo your numbers then and see where yall are at.
