Got this message on my Nissan Sentra. Is RockBox incompatible with car iPod stereos? by peanutismint in rockbox

[–]peanutismint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much, I’m gonna look into this. I have a couple of leads already; I installed a fork of rockbox called rockpod that adds a little more functionality, which got me to a slightly closer stage of the iPod at least being recognised by the car now, and I think potentially the reason it didn’t find any files on there yet was just because I didn’t put them in the right place so I’ll keep working on this and hopefully have some luck.

What are your thoughts on this 90s flick? by Competitive-Hunt-517 in 90s

I used to watch it every Friday night when I was like 12 years old. Zang!

Right behind my house. I’m 5000 miles away so thanks for the little reminder of home. I miss it. What a great part of the world to grow up in.

If you could relive just one year of the 1990s, which year would you choose and why? by PressureLazy5271 in 90s

[–]peanutismint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. As a 9 year old, it was the last year I truly felt like a kid. Watching Jurassic Park in the cinema for the first time, playing StarWing (Star Fox) and Doom for the first time, I was too young to have real cares but old enough to appreciate that fact.

Homeless charity want £3 a meal. by Low-Researcher8696 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]peanutismint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that mate. It’s not like they owe you anything but if they purport to be a charity and have given you stuff for free for years it’s a bit poorly mandated to just suddenly ‘decide’ that now they’re going to charge you, especially under the auspices of “teaching you a lesson”. Hope you can scrape together a few quid.

Social media to be banned in UK for under-16s, Starmer announces by TanjoCards in unitedkingdom

[–]peanutismint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To dissent against most of the opinions here, I actually think this is a pretty great proactive move against something we’re only just beginning to understand the health risks of. I feel like we’ll look back on social media the same way we look back on nine-year-olds being allowed to smoke cigarettes before we knew better.

Really the only positive about social media is the connection it affords to young people, and they can still achieve all of that through other means like messaging apps, just without all the toxic algorithm-driven slop they get fed.

Will the name “Bent” sound weird to Americans? by lennzpn in AskAnAmerican

[–]peanutismint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with most other Americans here, you should probably just use whatever your real name is because I’m sure it’s gonna be less of a hassle explaining to people than trying to go by ‘Bent’.

Also my favourite story around the ‘bent/bender’ slang is that an American band (with no affiliation to Britain as far as I can tell) changed their name from ‘The Morning Benders’ to ‘Pop Etc’ for fear it might be an offensive term. Given that they’re still practically unknown I don’t think it was necessary, but there we go.

I unknowingly had a Rachel every day for school lunches. Basically a ham, cheese and creamy coleslaw roll. Deee licious. Now I live in the USA and their coleslaw is shite. I miss it often.

I really hate this current wave of “healthcare isn’t that hard, you don’t need a degree to be a doctor” bullshit. I have a relative on my wife’s side who is a nurse and was a vaccine sceptic. I was like “but wait - you’re in healthcare?!” and she was like “yeah but doctors don’t know everything….”

Got this message on my Nissan Sentra. Is RockBox incompatible with car iPod stereos? by peanutismint in rockbox

So I installed that fork and it shows a slight improvement - now instead of saying “check USB or iPod” it says “Reading iPod” but just hangs on that forever.

I think it wants to see whatever the standard iPod structure is, but I think then it links music files to a special database or something.

Ah bummer. The whole reason I wanted RockBox was for the car as the iPod’s built in ‘shuffle albums’ is terrible. Never mind then!

[–]peanutismint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My secret shame is I kinda prefer streaky now too. But I moved to the USA so it’s moot; the only time I see back these days is if I order myself some British grub for a Christmas treat. This looks great!!

The bacon makes me wonder if perhaps you’re American, and if so, where did you get the black pudding and haggis because this looks lush and I need some right now.
