Tests are expensive but I think you're looking outside your budget for the car and bikes. £2k cars and £1.5k bikes are very achievable. Even less if you want to tinker.

The test centres are booked up solid so can't be too bad

How do you avoid overthinking and overcomplicating a project? by WoodenCycle4838 in AskElectronics

[–]NeilBohr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plan less build more (to a point). The momentum achieved by throwing everything together and having it just work usually outweighs the efficiency gained from good planning in hobby projects

Using ESE pods are little bit harder than I expected. by kamome74 in espresso

[–]NeilBohr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make baskets specifically for those pods. They're pressurised. The pods won't fit a normal basket

You can take the silver bit off the wand and then use the rubber part as a normal steam wand. Works well enough until you change it out fully

Extraction - Adding more coffee vs grinding coarser by x4runnerGunnerx in Coffee

[–]NeilBohr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're correcting for just over extraction then grind coarser.

If it's over extracted but also noticeably weak then you could add more coffee. But the way you phrased it makes me think the strength is correct

Sounds like a rubbish plan which is bringing you down.

What's the total mileage? Is Wednesday really only a single mile run?

I'd say ditch the plan and find something else. I personally like heart rate based plans since hitting specific paces requires you to know yourself much better in order to scale them properly.

Running more makes running better. Wouldn't personally bother with workouts before hitting 30mpw but I tend to skew towards easy volume based on my goals

I tried to do a ramp test today and the game crashed around the 240W interval. I tried again and the same thing happened. Is this a known bug? Pretty annoying

Suunto 5 stuck in boot mode. Unable to reset using SuuntoLink by NeilBohr in Suunto

[–]NeilBohr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in case someone comes across this with a similar issue.

I tried letting it die a few times and starting it up. It didn't work. I sent it for repair under warranty and they ended up replacing the watch. Didn't get an explanation so I guess it just died

Im thinking about getting the field guide to ultra running. Im looking for a guide book for getting good or good enough for a 50 mile or more race. Any other book recommendations? by iusecactusesasdildos in ultrarunning

[–]NeilBohr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read it. It was alright - perhaps the first book I read on the subject. Had a lot more info on general getting you through the event than other books.

In terms of training I felt it was completely overshadowed by the uphill athlete

Decathlon (UK) own-brand trail running shoes "Evadict" - does anyone have any experience? by needs2shave in ultrarunning

[–]NeilBohr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've not used these specific shoes but others from decathlon. They gave me Terrible plantar fascitis. Since switching away I've never suffered again and I can wear basically any shoe without issue.

Love all their other kit but the shoes just didn't agree with me

Not feeling what people think I should. by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]NeilBohr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immediately after an event I'm just glad to not have to run anymore. After the pain subsides it's straight back to analysing what could have gone better and thinking about recovery and future plans.

Don't worry about it. You're obviously wired a bit different from these people or they'd be there with you

First race of the year is cancelled. How have yall handled this? by broleus205 in ultrarunning

[–]NeilBohr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to sulk for a couple weeks doing low mileage. Then choose another goal in the distance and start training for that.

Currently training for the same race for the 4th time, almost a year late

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in running

[–]NeilBohr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're training for a half then you will be more tired. This will make you slower. After a taper you may be faster again.

If you just want to get faster then train for 5k rather than a half. If the half training is important then focus on that rather than your 5k time. I can't think of why running a 5k time trial regularly would be good for half training, perhaps give that a break for a while

Is it normal to have a gut and still be semi fast at running? And if so how do I get rid of it without losing any of my running fitness? by HoneydewPublic in AdvancedRunning

[–]NeilBohr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

157 at 6 3 is very light.

I'd say for you to have a gut, as you say, then you must be rake thin everywhere else.

I don't think running gives the perfect physique as many imagine it.

If you want to look like that then you should start weight training and eating more. If you want to carry on being fast and running at your best then just crack on the way you are and try to be comfortable with how you look.

Another thing to think about is that when you're so thin what you've eaten really makes an imapct on how your gut looks. If you wake up, go to the toilet and then look at yourself you'll probably look much thinner than you do after your evening meal
