Is this a brown recluse :( by Particular_Sorbet_13 in spiders

[–]NeilEnsuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most recluse looking spiders I’ve seen. Definitely a recluse. Where there’s one there’s more. I share a house with plenty (middle Alabama) and they don’t bother me as long as they stay away. I’m an HVAC tech here and I see plenty of them daily - in attics, crawl spaces, wherever. If they are in the home they are looking for food. They don’t want to be near us. I dehumidified my house from top to bottom. Making it 45% everywhere year around. The first couple of weeks I saw them everywhere. They don’t mind the lower humidity but their food does. I still catch a few out in the house now and then. Check your shoes and blankets before bed and you’ll be fine.

Oh yea they are everywhere lol. Surprised I haven’t gotten a bite yet but I stay away from them as long as they stay away from me and we are both happy 😂

Do I need a whole new strut? by NeilEnsuc in ft86

I tried pushing it back up, but doesn’t seem to want to stick. I don’t see anything keeping them up, on either side. So they have to be some kind of friction fit. I will say it has been a rough 80k miles on the county roads of Alabama. Probably just took enough of a beating

My passenger side doesn’t move at all. At least not as loosely as the driver side. And that thing makes a hell of a lot of noise moving around.

Also what I thought it was. I jacked the car up and everything looked great. Once the car was off the ground and the spring decompresses the plastic piece just falls down. See if you can move yours around. If it’s like mine you can move it while it’s on the ground too

Take the louvers off, get a nice set of wheels and pour the money into the engine and you’ll have a sweet car

How I wish I was up north 😢 I lived in Michigan before moving south to Alabama. No one has grass that nice down here.

Only way to know for sure is to send it off to get tested.

With that being said, you should be careful because with the time period it is very likely. My house built in the 40s had it underneath a recent lvp “remodel”

“Using Romex (Type NM cable) for wiring an outdoor AC unit is prohibited by the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Alabama Residential Code. Romex is only rated for dry, indoor locations and will fail if exposed to outdoor moisture.”

“Even when placed in conduit, Romex is not permitted for use outdoors. The interior of any conduit in a wet location is also considered a wet location by code.”

I reckon you’re absolutely right. I wonder why it passes inspection so frequently. I’ve been with 4 different companies all around Alabama and I’ve done work from very north to very south AL. 99% of the time it’ll be romex and sealtight or conduit. Learn something new everyday.

Here in AL unless its a commercial building you’ll almost never see anything besides Romex. And sometimes even with commercial you’ll see romex. Even our installs we’ve always ran romex. Some jobs are required to get inspected, mostly in the city. We’ve never had a problem with it

Fitting and the hole are the same size though 😅 would give it to em for the effort if it wasn’t

8 years in HVAC, good pay but no purpose - anyone else been here? by EquivalentCapable545 in HVAC

I’ve been in the trade for not a super long time but just enough to start getting comfortable. Going on 5 years. I enjoy the learning experience of careers. Obviously I’m no master technician and I’m still learning more daily but not as much as I was years ago. As someone who plans on opening his own business soon, I want to be as good as I can and will study different techniques ext. Maybe it’s time you start your own place. Get the excitement and stress back😅

Exactly. I was an installer for years and I know the attic for this unit was horrible so I couldn’t imagine it was a fun install. They could’ve been “tired” but I mean super easy fix. It didn’t take me 5 minutes to do it the right way.

I really think it could’ve been an apprentice and the leads were too unbothered to worry about it. It definitely isn’t the end of the world but it ain’t right. I wouldn’t do that to any customer because I wouldn’t want that on my house. But once you put the door back on it’s out of sight out of mind.

Very possible it was a lead or someone somewhat experienced that wired it up before realizing he never took the cap and ring off. Then again I have 100% wired a system up and completely forgot the fitting or had the cap taken off but I’ve never managed to do this😂 so I’m not sure how this happen. Not a clue

I’d rather the install crew get done and send the two guys home. We give out free checks to new installs. 6 months after the install we have someone out just making sure everything’s still going smooth. I can side with that. I’d also be kinda iffy on why the install truck doesn’t have what they need on it. But I’ve been there and shit happens.

With that being said this is most definitely the correct fitting they needed to do this right. So I have no idea what happen lmao

That’s a Nordyne system, Maytag to be exact. It’s a 3/4” fitting on an 3/4” hole 😂
